The Snitz developers do not at this time have plans for a .NET version of this forum.
However, there are (non Snitz) .NET forums out there, and some being developed |

| nathan - is this gonna be a freebie/open src/gpl/whatever like snitz? If so I can offer maybe a little help here n there - specifically I'm working for moft atm, so may be able to get answers to any gotchas you may come accross whilst in dev! |

What makes asp.net more desirable, if that is the case? |

ASP is powered by VBScript, which really isn't that powerful.
ASP.NET has the powerful .NET programming framework behind it. That includes multiple programming languages (C#, VB.NET, J#, Fortran.NET ect ect ect) and an extensive class library.
Take a look at the quickstart tutorials to get a since of some of the features that you find in ASP.NET and the .NET framework. |

Alfred, as you know, you and I are kind of in the same boat vis-ŕ-vis learning ASP, but my simplest understanding of the big difference between the two is that ASP.NET has many functions "pre-built" and the code is designed to be able to integrate these nuggets of code very easily.
The whole technology is pretty young, but it seems very exciting. All of my programming friends tell me in the end, it's easier to build a robust site with .NET technologies than it is with ASP. |

Wouldn't you have to find a willing party to share your nuggets with...?
That may present an occasional problem. 
Joke aside, this is just another example of the difficulty of becoming self-sufficient in this genre of expertise.
As soon as you decide to buckle down and invest money and time and energy in learning something from the ground up, you find out that it is outdated. |

Just like life! That's just the way the world is headed--technology will improve faster and faster, and those who can keep up will come out ahead.
The good thing is that ASP.NET is a relatively young technology and should be around for a while. ASP itself will surely also still be around for a while.
At any rate, I always think it's difficult to say that any learning was a complete waste of time. |

I would never say that - the least it does for you is train your mind.
Surely we didn't go through the "joys" of latin text books expecting to use the knowledge on our vacation travels...
However, your priorities at 64 are not the same as at 37...
I don't have the luxury of time on my side to invest in training my mind, and have to be a bit more discriminating in the selection of material I want to get a grasp of.
My God, now I have to worry about learning .NET... |
