I asked a person who uses Snitz Forums for their website to give me the source so I could look at it and review it. They refused. I mentioned to them that Snitz is open source and is free to the world and is licensed under the GPL. He still refused. No matter what happens he refuses to give up the source code. The address of the site is:

http://www.billingspaintball.com

As I understand the GPL, a person who has written/modfied source code covered by the GPL is only obligated to disclose the source code if they intend to redistribute it.

Say I create a modded snitz, called Flashy Snitz, that changes all of the nav elements into Flash animation links. I'm free to keep those code changes secret as long as I use them on my own sites. If I decide to sell or offer the mod to the public, then I must reveal the Flashy Snitz source code to those I distribute the Flashy Snitz mod to.

This suggests that if I decide to give/sell/redistribute the Flashy snitz mod to person A, I'd have to give person A the source code. However, I still don't have to give it to you. Of course, person A could give it to you, but they also would not be obligated by the GPL to give you access to the Flashy Snitz source unless they themselves redistribute it.

It makes sense, if you had unintentionally created a security hole(s) with your own mods, you shouldn't have to allow hackers to look at the code and discover the hole, should you?

I'd certainly not offer my source code up any longer either, in the begining I did, but now I have probably some 700-800 hours invested in it, I'd prefer not to just give away all that work.

<edit>Now I've taken a look at the forum you linked too, its looks like a standard snitz with almost nothing changed, why all the fuss over the source code ?</edit>
