How many ways can a sales rep lose or destroy a notebook PC?
A friend working at my company's IT helpdesk tells me that reps have :
- dropped them
- spilled (name your liquid) on them
- forgotten them while visiting physicians, eating lunch, buying coffee, riding the train, etc.
- driven over them
- driven off with the notebook on the roof, hood, trunk, etc. of the car.
- forgotten notebooks in their company cars, resturants, bars, coffehouses, bathrooms, train stations, airports, hostess bars, strip clubs, (name your location here) where they are stolen.
- Sat, stepped on, fallen on, or crushed their notebook
- lost them while drunk
- lost them while not drunk
- accidentally burned them
- melted while in a motorcycle saddlebag
Have I forgottne anything? Has anyone heard of any others?
My next post is going to be how many ways can sales reps try to sneak pornography onto their notebook PC.

A mechanic who sometimes comes for our printer once had some trouble getting the screen opened. He ended up getting it more than open: he pushed it so far back when it finally opened that it broke out of the hinges, ending up with a seperate monitor. Needless to say he got a new notebook Their notebooks are now mounted differently in the "suitcases" they're carried in though. The screens kept breaking/failing to work due to the metal arms (I guess that's the best thing to call them) that were meant to keep the notebooks from moving around in the "suitcases", but were under the screen when it was opened, pushing it up until it wouldn't work anymore.
A few clients of ours had their notebooks stolen out of their cars. One had it stolen out of the trunk of his car (big Audi stationwagon), others had a window broken to get stuff from the backseat. I've also heard of people getting their notebooks (and other stuff) stolen out of the backs of their cars by people on scooters while they have to wait for traffic lights to change. That's why I always lock my doors when I have anything in the back, regardless if it's expensive or not And best of all, one of the mechanics once told me that one of his colleagues was checking which way he should go at one of the information signs here in town, left his car running, and someone took off with his car. Everything was gone. |

I've done many of those in my travelling days.
A co-worker started a new installation, and within a couple hours the business burned to the ground, melting his laptop and everything else he had with him that was abandoned in the rush to the exits.
Another was being flown by the owner of the client business in the owners plane, unfortunately the laptop and the occupants were lost in a plane crash.
