As far as I know this is about the amount this forum uses, but Huw can tell better. If you count one page as 100 KB on average, 300.000 views/mo * 100 KB would be 30 GB/mo, so it is quite reasonable.
You may like to use less categories/forums on default.asp, archive some old stuff but this would not help much. On the other hand, you may like to test a CSS'ed forum version. I believe the HTML sent from the server will be less about 20% or so...

The html code that Snitz Forums uses has a lot of extra spaces which could be removed to help you save on bandwidth.
You could also switch off the Jump To section.
And use buttons rather than graphics for login/logout. |

In the asp file, search for a double quote followed by 3 or more spaces and remove those spaces.
e.g. Change
Response.Write " </tr>" & vbNewline to
Response.Write "</tr>" & vbNewline |

You could also remove a lot of the & vbNewline from the code apart from where they are used to generate emails. |

Most of us wouldnt consider that a problem mas. Having a successfull forum with lots of visitors is what most people would love to have, there is always going to be a lot of traffic usage on a very popular site, you cant do much about it.
Changing to one of the CSS versions of the forums that was suggested to you might reduce your usage, but its only a short term measure really, as your forum continues to grow it will need more bandwidth. |

before there're discussions on using xml version. which would reduce bandwidth used pretty much for IE 5+ users. there're also discussions on gzip the web pages but it might not be suitable for everyone.

10k views a day should not generate that sort of bandwidth. I get more traffic then that with many adds to my Snitz (making most files larger) and I don't hit that kind of bandwidth with my forums.
mas - is it possible it's something else about your site causing this? |
