My domain expiry date is approaching and it's time for me to renew it. I got a letter from Register.com (as I always day everytime by domainis about to expire) offering me to transfer my domain to thier service. In the past years I have ignored them. But they are offering $29.90 for 2 years, while I am paying $20.00 a year with my existing service.
I am wondering if I should switch to them or not? Anyone has any thoughts on Register.com? |

I use directnic.com and use their DNS service also which you can add records to and they are $15 a year domain name and $5 a year for DNS. |

I've got about 15-20 domains with godaddy, and had no problems with them at all. Will soon be moving them all to enom but thats really purely becuase for those customers that I've done the domain registration for, I can't let them access my godaddy account for obvious reasons, but with enom I can them all their own little control panel. |

I heard recently that GoDaddy charges you $50 to transfer your domain AWAY from them to another company. Is there any truth in that? Do you keep full control of the domain?
Also wondering if anyone had any bad/good experiences, in terms of service, with register.com.
Just doing some research before I make a decision. |

I have used Register.com in the past, other than the fact that they seem to cost more than other places, I didn't have any problems with them.
Not sure about the charge from godaddy.com to transfer away from them, in fact I've never heard of any registrar that charges you for transferring away from their service. |

I have registerd several domains with register.com. Had no problems ever. Most recent new registration was two days back. Cost me 19.99 for one year (Price Advertised is $35). When I quit just before completing the registration a pop up window opened with a coupon code. Control panel is easy to use as well. |

Same here. But my existing provider say they do. Was wondering if it was a hoax or there was some truth to it. Because I know some of these providers will do/say anything to keep thier customers.
If I can confirm godaddy doesn't do that, I wll probably go with them. |

With the money you save by transferring to godaddy it probably wouldnt matter even if they did charge a nominal fee if/when you transferred away from them. Theyre over $10 cheaper per annum than Register.com |

I don't think they can do that . . . unless its buried somewhere in that terms of service agreement. |

Thanks guys.
One last question, this being my first domain transfer. I have about 2 months left before my domain expire with my current provider. If I transfer now, what happens with the 2 months I have left? I lose that 2 months? Should I wait maybe 2 weeks before my domain expires before I transfer? GoDaddy won't do the trasnfer if the domain expires in 7 days or less. |

if you go with godaddy, they add 1 year to the end of your current registration. So you should get 14 months. |

Cool! Don't they lose money when they do that? Thier prices are already low. |

They make their money from selling extras like email, web hosting etc etc, they probably have almost no margin at all on Domain Registrations |
