I'm a pretty novice programmer. Were looking to get a java chatroom in our site, and would like to integrate it right into snitz to use the member database. Heres what the Raidersoft told us we'd need to do. It doesn't sound hard, but I'd have no idea how to do it. We are using an access DB, and snitz 3.3.03.

-----------------
It is a relatively simple process to integrate our software with your
own user database, however programming knowledge is required.
Specifically, you will need to write a CGI script that accepts various parameters (username, password) and returns a 0 (no access) a 1 (access allowed) or a 2 (administrative access) based on the parameters. Your script would essentially authenticate the passed parameters with your own database.
------------------

Can anyone give me an idea how to do it? He said it could be done in ASP as well. I'd be willing to pay for someone to do this script for me.

Thanks,
Patrick

How are the parameters parsed to the Java applet ? With this knowledge, it could be quite easy to do this I would think. The mlev value would function as the 0,1 or 2 (with some translation), and then go from there.

Heres his response:
------------

The parameters are passed as standard CGI http-encoded GET parameters.
I.e.,

http://www.yoursite.com/authenticate.asp?username=bob&password=test

A complete list of the passed parameters can also be found in the
control panel, or by following this link:

http://www.sigmachat.com/panel/help/aas.html

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance!

Regards,

How do you administer the passwords ? Because you won't be able to decrypt the Snitz password, but you could parse the encrypted version.

Also, where do you want this link ? .. on the Snitz (top-right) menu would be one of the easiest places, but anything is possible.

Top right menu would be perfect, we have a link to snitzy chat there now. If i'm correct 3.3 doesn't have encrypted passwords does it?

I'm moving this to the MOD W/O code forum, since this is not a database problem.

rsoxhater - we did exactly what you are looking for - except we spent $ to buy ParaChat server so we can self-host moderated chats, as well as open chats.

It's a wasted day if you don't spend at least part of it flying upside down.
