Hi all,

I've been looking for the answer to my problem but, through I think I found it, i'm not sure if it is aplicable to the last version (3.4.03)

So I'm not sure if the problem comes through a MOD or by forums. Please, if this is not the correct forum, please move it to the apropiate place.

A month ago I upgraded my forum since 3.3.03 to 3.4.03.
Inmediatly installed Active Users Mod (the apropiated version), more smilies (making some changes to make it work in a new version) and one day later Private Messages Mod.

The first day everything worked fine. But the second one in the same moment I Installed Private Messages MOD in the first "Reload" to see the changes.... all the pages started to generate very very slowly.
Timer says the page was generated in no less than 27 seconds.

Not only default.asp, any page.
At the next day, everything worked ok, so I thought there was a problem with the server the day before.

But since then, almost everyday I must call to the server to ask for reboot the server. Any file is served quickly less asp files and it extends to all my site, any asp file although this other asp files call another data base.
The elapsed time finally is so large that server shoot its message sayin' you must change the server.scriptTimeout blahblah.

as the technical service says, the server has no problem. Says there must be something in the forums code. They say there must be conections not closed causing this.
The extrange thing is this happens in days with almost no traffic in my site. They told me to migrate to SQL server but I think with 14226 total messages in 10 months and 187 members with an active members record in 9.... don't need to use a SQL Server (I must pay an extra to use it)

Yesterday I de-activate Private Messages to test if was this Mod what was causin this. Worked fine 'till this morning. Today default.asp and active.asp are generated again in no less than 27 seconds again.

You can test my forums here http://www.tunait.com/foro/
(at this moment default.asp was generated in seconds 26.64 seconds.)
My host is www.arsys.es. It runs Microsoft-IIS/5.0 and my connection string is through DSN. My Data Base is Access 2000.

I found this topic http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=34586&SearchTerms=slow where @Tomic comments that has found many unclosed recordsets in various files. I thought there was my answer but reading I noticed that they are talking about 3.3.x version of Snitzs Forums.

My question now is if in the actual version (3.4.03) is this fixed.

If the answer is "no" could somebody to guide me to find these unclosed recordsets? or suggest any idea that wy it is happen in my forums?

Thanks a lot.

Helena

p.d. Sorry if there was a post most apropiate to talk about this but sincerely I didn't find it, only found an old version similar post.

The problem is not with the base code of snitz but more likely with the mods you have installed. You should look at the mod codes for unclosed record sets, etc.

Thanks for your answer, Nikkol.

So this post must be moved to the Mod's forum, sorry

I'll look in those two MOD's, Active Users and Private Messages. Anyway if somebody knows exactly where's the problem in these MOD's I'll be very agradecida

Thank you very much.

The forum is very fast for me as well. I don't have a very busy forum, but I have Active Users installed and never had a similar problem. Don't know about Private Messages though, but I don't think I remember ever reading about a similar thing.

Anyway AFAIK the recordsets should be closed automatically when the page is concluded by the server.

Seems tha it happens when i'm loged

I have the private messagess off.
And Active Users is only for members, so when I access the forum whithout login it works very fast.

Could be the active users mod? but...

I've testing this.

You're right. When I logout the response is very quickly and as normal user too. But when I log as Admin or Moderator the pages are generated again in 80 seconds.

OneWayMule, you are the user "deleteme" aren't you?
If the answer is "yes" what about if I give you moderator privilege to test it?

Strange, isn't it

The thing is that if I could call my server and ask to reboot the server (they don't work Sundays), beeing a moderator, pages would load quickly again.
