i think "Upgrade" (overwrite those old files with 3.4 new files, change config.asp then run setup.asp !) can keep your old posts/members data. but it's NO way to keep the installed Mods code modification anymore...

you'll need to reinstall those Mods, or do the Mods code modified to your new 3.4 original code again. (some Mods will still work on 3.4, but most of them need a updated version for 3.4 new code.)

Do not simply overwrite your old files with the new ones. If you leave one of the unnecessary files it could be a security risk.

Here's how I'd do it (the safe way):
  • Upload the new files in a new directory

  • Make a copy of your database (do that online and rename it so you can use it during the upgrade process)

  • Lock your old forums

  • Make sure config.asp in the new directory has all the correct changes in it

  • Run setup.asp in the new directory

  • If all went well, change the names of both the old and new forums' directories so the new forums can be accessed with the old forums' directory name

You can either delete or leave the old forums, however, I'd suggest saving them somewhere as a backup.
