Ok, this is just a concept, but I was thinking about a daily post limit for users who haven't reached your second level of title, or something like that. Both of these limits can be set, and perhaps an override for "known" posters.
This helps prevent signups who spam, or signups who just don't get netiquette sometimes and flood the forums with junk. I know it may hold back a couple of good ones, but that's what the override is for, and good posters understand anyway.
Any thoughts and ideas before I possibly plug away at this? |

Yeah, make a admin interface, so the value(s) can be changed easily enough. Are you going to determine time by a cookie or via the database? |

Ah !!! ... nice idea, my moderators suggested the same thing recently with a mandatory avatar until they rach the second level, with override as well.
I think your idea makes a GREAT MOD I will help you beta test, or anything you want. A daily post restriction with override sounds like a brilliant idea, or maybe not 'second level' but 'minimum number of posts' |

What about "You may only make X posts in the first 24/48/72 hours of joining this forum" type thing? Instead of a "daily limit" |

eggyfarts - I want to setup something so it's all definable.
So it can be any of this: Users without 100 posts cannot post more then 7 posts within a 24 hour period. No user can make more then 10 posts within the first 24 hours of signup. No user can make more then 5 posts within each day of the first 7 days of signup.
Admin can override restrictions on anyone.
I'll be doing everything off the db.
I have some time off in a couple of weeks, I hope to nail it then. |

Is it too late to add a big on/off switch as well ? . I can smell a mutiny on my hands when I first implement this, so it would be good to have all the code implemented but also have the ability to turn the feature on/off as required by Admin |

laser - I'll make an on/off switch for you. But, also realize you can override each person anyway - in fact, I may make it so you can setup a default time period and/or post count, but you can shorten or elongate it as you see possible too. Some users just need it before getting settled in. I realize many sites don't need anything like it, but those with heavy traffic may see this as very valuable. |
