I have a forum running ok, But i am wondering if its possible to make a part of the forum private so only a handfull of people can see it.

I tried to do this, I got it passworded ok. But when i opened a test account from another computer it let me see that part of the f
orum and also post to it. Must have done something wrong there somewere.

Anyone want to help me out here as i dont want to have to start a new install of the forum in another folder just for members unless i have to.

Thanks

yer, strange that. I tried it but when i opened a new account it was able to see the lot and enter it and post.

would it be something to do with the 'Highest level of Subscription' setting in admin section - Feature Configuration ?

If so what would i need to set it to to stop it ?

Thanks

Shouldn`t be cause by subscriptions.
Which Auth Type did you choose? Members hidden or allowed members hidden?

not to worry, I got it sorted out now.

Highest level of Subscription : Subscride to houl board.
then i set the forums up with
Allowed members list(hidden) and set up the members i wanted to have access to the forum.
It worked this time, but when i did it befor it didnt.
Strange but its working now.
Thanks for your replies.

but just as Rasco pointed out, Subscriptions have nothing to do with it.

I'm running into the same problem. Some members who are in the allowed members list (hidden) can't see it and don't have access to it.

I've run into this before but never needed but now I need it and am wondering what is the proper way to make a forum hidden and accessible to certain selected members.

I never had any problems with this. I wonder whether that is not a server caching issue. Have you tried impersonating your users to find out whether you can login as them? Or create a test user add him to the list and check whether forum access is granted or not.
