I have made a MOD, but I don't have the time to recreate it and lay it out all nice and pretty for everyone, especially since it is written for 3.3.05. It really is a very easy MOD for 3.3.05, and probably just as easy for 3.4.xx.
I am not too confident with MOD creation, security issues, and the like, but I think it will help others. Besides I think it may just be a discrepency in the base code. Something meant to be corrected but forgotten about.
Ok, here it is ...
Go to any topic at Snitz. For example, go to this one http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=39256
Just under the login there is a set of icons: New Topic, Reply to Topic, and Printer Friendly. Now go to the first post and look for this ... "Posted - 06 December 2002 : 16:50:29". Next to that (if you are not logged in) you will see the Show Profile icon and the Reply with Quote icon.
Now go to my forum. For example, go to this page http://www.carolinaequine.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=31 (The page look horrible, by the way ... LOL!)
Ok, look in the first post for this "Posted at 4:31:26 PM on October 11, 2002". Just after that, ignore the Flag Topic for Review icon, but do look at the two icons after that. If you are not logged in, you will see a Reply with Quote and a Reply without Quote icon.
Code: To get the Reply without quote code, all I did was take the code from the Reply to Topic icon found at the top of the base snitz code where the New Topic, Reply to Topic, and Printer Friendly icons are located. The Reply to Topic icon's code produces a Reply without Quote reply. I simply took the icon_reply_topic.gif, edited it, and made my own icon from it ... icon_reply_topic_no_quote.gif.
It's just a small MOD, but it sure is clean and helpful to me. I thought it might help others. And since no one has ever made a MOD for it, I simply figure that it just has been overlooked. I mean, the code is already there, just one of the icons hasn't been created.
If anyone wants to take a stab at it, when I get a chance, I can tell you what I did.
Cheers,
Etymon

Is this a lot of words that mean you want a reply button on the "icon bar"?

I think Richard's example shows how easy this is to add to the menu and the differences.

It is the same, but I think what he wants is to have an icon next to the reply w/quote icon so a user can reply to the topic (without quoting) from each message instead of going to the top/bottom of the page to click Reply to Topic. This is something I had done with my 3.3 version but never got around to doing it after switching to 3.4
Here is what the Reply w/quote icon looks like:
And here is the icon I made for Regular Reply: . |
