This is being inserted into web pages automatically by Dreamweaver MX, and its only function, it seems to me, is to provide bots with an email address, but it also seems that it's a wonderful way to provide the same to spammers.

Anybody know a good reason why I should keep these the <head></head> section of my web pages?

NOPE. I don't think it even falls into the standards of Meta Tags. Just some made up tags, although I could be wrong. Even if I am, there's no reason to put info there unless you are a web designer looking for business and you've put this on your customers sites.

Strip your email addy out fo the headers - I can see no reason why it would be needed there. fwiw all < head > tags are optional in HTML, and your page should run just fine without that line.

Maybe look in the DW configs - I'd imagine it's configurable to stop it inserting your email addr.
