I go to college where we have access to the internet but unfortunately the computer admin have added a filter software to filter out any offensive content. This is fair enough but they tend to block out every website under the sun which is any good. Is their any way i could get around this filter so that I could visit hotmail etc.. Would using the domain names IP address work?? thanks for any help!!!
Talk with the admin and get the site overridden so it's allowed? Most admins will add sites to the allowed lists if you can show a reasonable purpose for visiting the site.
You could try altavista's babelfish translation engine to 'translate' the site from (say) chinese (or another language the page isn't in). Babelfish passes through words it can't translate, so you may be able to get the page text that way. Images will still be blocked, and you'll find that every (image) request to the server will probably get logged by your college, so you may get into trouble if you're looking for things you oughtn't . In effect babelfish is just acting as a text proxy for you. Very unlikely to work for hotmail as it's such a rich site.
