Question for you... someone wants to throw a banner ad up on our site and we'd like to try and figure out a good rate. We're looking at two methods currently: 1) Per-click rate 2) Monthly flat rate
The ad is just a standard sized thing for a run-of-the-mill website, nothing out of the ordinary. Our site has about 5000 registered members and gets about 150-200 hits on our front page alone every day. (It's the only one currently tracked) The ad would appear in the center of the page, near the top on all pages of our forums.
Can anyone offer an estimate of what a reasonable rate might be for one/both of the above options? Anyone know what the "going rate" is for this situation?
Well, as they say, something's only worth what others are willing to pay for it. I've seen rates for CPM's ranging from US $ .05 to US $2.00 or more, a far cry from the $30 or so during the Internet's irroational boom days.
Those figures are very far from actual payout by any company around today. I'm not even talking 1/2, most companies will give you 100/th of some of those, no matter how targetted.
BWJM - take the flat rate. Click-through percentages are horrible as people have become immune to banner ads. Especially if you have mostly return traffic. You can't really make a price estimate until you figure out what your complete traffic is. 468x60 banners rarely have above a $1 CPM anymore. Other types of ads may be higher.
