I hope this is the right forum, I hope someone can help, so here goes ....
I am designing a MOD that will probably only be relevant to my users, but I will release it as a real MOD when it is finished. THe problem is that I have never seen documentation on what is already 'in' Snitz - the inc files, the Session variables held, etc.. does this exist at all ?
More precisely, I'm wanting to create a Tipping Competition (among other things) that uses the login code, validation and database calls to the Members table to validate. I know I could work this out for myself, but if someone has already done the work would they mind sharing it ? |

Anyone at all ?
Basically I want to leverage the login sequence of Snitz, to login to another database that I am developing - I know it's possible, but is there any good/great code snippets someone can provide quickly ? |

I can't help I'm a dummy in that area.........as in many others, but we all have our own skills huh? However, what is a 'Tipping Competition'? It might help the modders.......and besides, I'm very nosey. |

Laser I think you hit on one mod that is really needed and it it a good "manual" for snitz. Someone(colaboration) with alot of knowledge and background in snitz should design a manual. I can turn it into a pdf file for them. I would do it but I am a rookie all the way.
I too would like to make some mods but with so many pages of code it is not in my capabilities at this time |

Snitz is not about manuals, i's about teaching yourself using source code! |

I wouldn't have even looked at asp were it not for snitz. It's the best hands on experience anyone could wish for. All the hairpulling is so worth it when you finally get it right! Manuals? What are they? |

Yes I understand that it is about learning source code. I buy a ton of books to learn. But learning would come faster with having a slight back ground on what the forum app does and how all the pages tie together is all I was getting at. |

Manuals are just a way for people to get your hard earned money for writing nonsense and step by step instructions that don't teach you anything! |

terryp, a tipping comp is like when you do footy/basketball/baseball/racing tipping (i.e. individuals 'tip' who is going to win a sporting event, and then compare their results to others). There's lots of pre-built tipping comps for football (etc) but none for motor racing, so I wrote my own for this year. BUT, members have to create another user name/login for the tipping comp (because the tipping-member table is not Snitz .... most people create the same userid's, but it's still a hassle). Next year, I'd like to make it so that there is no need to re-register for the tipping if you are already for the forums ... I think it will work a bit like Private Messages - even though it's very integrated to Snitz it really is it's own separate application.
jkmcgrath, yeah, I can document bits (but they are very small bits ). I can also migrate to PDF but there just isn't enough documentation for newbie MOD writers. I am willing to learn, and I'll eventually figure out what most of the variables do, but I thought that the Dev guys would have bits of documentation they can pass on. |

If you ask for specific information, someone would help you. Just don't ask for documentation, that's not the Snitz way! |

David,
You seem rather sour too bad. I see in your bio you are joining the Army soon. What is your MOS? I have 67Y, 67S, 68B and soon 74B (Been in the NOC last 2 1/2 years)
If you hate manuals now you will be REAL unhappy in the Army. Everything is done by a TM/FM DA PAM or some other type of document. |

Army manuals are diffrent, they are not made for profit, and they teach you things you can use (or at least have to use) I don't know a lot of English army terminology, because I'm not going to the US army, I don't live in the US. And I don't hate manuals, I just think that learning from source code is much better. |

All I'm saying David is that there must be a faster way than every individual digging through the source code. I am happy to do that, but if someone else has done that before me .. well, anyway, I am happy to read thru the code, I don't have a problem with that. |
