Saw this being previewed on the ScreenSavers on TechTV. http://www.avantbrowser.com
It is based off of Microsoft's Internet Explorer technology. So the rendering of the web pages are done using IE's engine. But this browser uses MDI (Multiply-Document Interface) which keeps all the windows in the browser itself.
It looks pretty good and I like it myself. It has some cool little features like going back and forward using your mouse buttons.
Mostly for users who like IE but want something a little different. |

Naaa. As soon as Microsoft see that they might get somewhere in the browser world, they'll send thier tough guys over to rough them up and if that doesn't work, bring them to court for a few years until they don't have any money left. |

Looks like a rip of www.netcaptor.com which has a few more features from what I can gather, course netcaptor isn't freeware.
Netcaptors been around for quite some time now, don't think MS have sued them yet |

M'oft have no issue with ie-based and non-ie-based browsers - Opera's been around as long as you like, as has NeoPlanet (ie-based). |

It was just a joke against Microsoft. I don't really believe they would do that.
I'm not asking anyone to switch thier browsers. I found this software and I decided to try it out. I like it and decided to let the Snitz Community know about this program. If it instrests you, then go for it. If not, you can just pass it by.
Gremlin, I have never seen Netcaptor though. I have never tried any other browser (besides IE and Netscape) so this would be my first. I'll pop over to netcaptor's site and see what it looks like. |

Ohhh there's a world of exciting browser experiences out there! try http://browsers.evolt.org/ for a slice of history :D
I like to see how web sites appear to the rest of the world - it'll blow your socks off when you see what liberate(ntl connect thru the telly)/webtv users have to put up with!
{edited to add a bit}
<toptip>Oh yeh, I like to keep a copy of opera on my boxes as well as ie - why? cos if you're testing a site and trying to load it a bit, multiple instances of IE will all share a cookie and hence session, so another unrelated browser can spark up a second simultaneous session on the same box :) </toptip> :-) |

I've been using NetCaptor for quite a while now too, after Gremlin wrote something about it on one of the forums here. It's absolutely great, and the tabbed browsing is nicer than in Netscape 7. It's still basically IE though, so sites don't load any faster for me. But then again, IE is probably the slowest "modern" browser available at this time. |

Really ? I still thought IE was about the fastet renderer around, maybe I should do some comparisons for myself to see :). |

I've loaded my own sites aswell as several others in both IE, IE with Netcaptor, Mozilla 1 and Netscape 7, and Mozilla and Netscape were the fastest. Netcaptor defenately doesn't speed things up, but that might be because I'm on 1024/256 ADSL and a 10k banner that's blocked doesn't make a whole lot of difference
Oh, and it's not the on-screen rendering of the page that Mozilla/Netcape does (while IE doesn't show anything until the entire page is "ready" to be shown) that tricked me. I simply timed the loading of the same pages and IE was often several seconds slower. |
