In the process of getting more involved in integrating IPGate into v3.4, I've noticed what looks like pieces of the v3.3 Ban IP MOD. Is this the case or did I just miss some of these things in the older versions? i.e. pop_viewip.asp = pop_ban_ip - some ban code?, member.asp -> lock member = ban? It looks like it's sort of implemented for members through member IP logging, topic IP logging, and member locking, but doesn't look like it covers non-members.

Baning IPs is unreliable because about 95% of internet users have dynamic IP and they just need to dissconnect and reconnect in order to replace his\hers IP address, besides, most web servers allow IP baning |

Most windows hosts will not allow the customers to apply IP Banning directly on the server. Most of us will agree IP Banning is not a complete solution, but its normally reliable enough (even if a whole C has to be banned) to get rid of someone thats been playing havoc on your forums, you only need to block for a week or two until they can no longer be bothered coming back.
Over 60% of my forum users appear to be coming from Static IP address and it has worked well in the past. |

That particular forum is dedicated to online games, and as such most people who play these type of games have a tendancy to use broadband rather than dial-up links, hence the larger number of static IP's. |

I have broadband with Static, in fact all Cable in NZ is static :), most of our DSL around here have very long DHCP leases as well so you can get the same IP for weeks on end. |
