I'm receiving an odd error when I try to setup a new forum. I've set up a new domain on my Web host, and I'm trying to install a new forum. After unzipping the files in appropriate directories and changing the config files, I get the following weird error on the front page:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e10'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Too few parameters. Expected 1.
/forum/inc_functions.asp, line 1260
I think it's a little strange, because I set up recently an identical forum on another virtual domain with the same Web host. I don't think I've done anything differently.
Thoughts?

Are you using FrontPage or Visual Interdev? These two products CAN (not sure what needs to be set to do so) change code behind the scene.
Also, make sure you uploaded the files in ASCII format. That could have an impact also...

I'm receiving that error code at www.poasters.com/forum also (the only difference being line 1268), but the kicker is that the admins can all log in and have no problem using the board. Members and lurkers are the only ones receiving the error and can't gain access.
This problem began with the SR 4 upgrade. I've been looking for a solution here and have tried every fix I've found regarding SR 4 upgrade problems. I've even had ReadyHosting set up a new database folder and tried moving the Access 97 database into that. Right now I'm having a co-admin with a faster connection re-upload the upgrade files in hopes the upload I did was somehow corrupted. I've already re-uploaded it myself without success, so this is pretty much a last gasp.
If anyone has time to troubleshoot the message board at Poasters, we would certainly appreciate it.
New clue: just received this from someone who tried to log in:
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'
Include file not found
/forum/Default.asp, line 40
The include file 'inc_functions.asp' was not found.

Strange, the error when displaying default.asp points to the function chkDisplayForum in inc_functions.asp
That function only is called once from within default.asp and that line looks ok to me.
What should make the error go away is switching off Private Forums, but that ofcourse isn't a real option.
Strange is also that the forum at the site here also uses Private Forums and SR4 and doesn't have a problem.
I also remember that we had a problem like this before, but really don't know what caused it anymore....
I know this isn't much help yet, but thought that thinking out loud might help the others to help.

The error that inc_functions.asp couldn't be found is strange since the other error refers to inc_functions.asp

for this error to occur, inc_functions.asp must be there.
This starts to look a bit like a serverproblem....

Thanks for checking into this, Pierre. I've had the ReadyHosting tech on the line on and off all afternoon, and he can't find a problem on their end. He's been very responsive and set up a DSN for us, but I haven't had a chance to figure up how to set up config.asp to try that yet. One does have to eat, you know--or so my wife says, at least. 
I'm hoping it's a corrupt file(s) problem, but I'll try emailing the host tech (since it's past phone hours) and tell him what you said. That does make sense--maybe it'll ring a bell with him.

Well, the forum has been completely overwritten on the server and it didn't help. I tried changing the database in config.asp to Access 2k and that didn't help, either. Haven't heard back from ReadyHosting, but I'm out of ideas to try.
I guess tomorrow we'll dump SR4 off the server and re-install SR2. It was a little buggy for us, but it worked.
If anyone comes up with a better idea, please let me know. Can't wait too long though--we've lost enough traffic as it is. Wouldn't you know it--right after I upgraded and killed the forum, we were listed in the LangaList.

Just an update: we went ahead, or back, to a re-install of SR2 and the forum is working fine so far. Hopefully the issue with the upgrade was a freak thing specific to us. The right thing to do was probably to keep troubleshooting till we found the problem, but a two-day downtime was about all we could afford at this point.
Hopefully the database changes we made while working with the upgrade will help with SR2--it's really a great forum, and all of us at Poasters would like to thank all of you who put so much into providing it.

Would you mind re-installing the SR4 in a different folder ? (i.e. /forum2/) so you could have both (a running forum and a place to test). Best thing to do would be to use a different copy of the database for the testing.
BTW, your forum now says it is Version 3.1 final. Are you sure you used SR2 before and not an older version ? In that case running the upgrade from that older version would be a good idea. Selecting an older version to upgrade from won't break anything (you'll just get a lot of "noncritical errors" stating that field X of Y allready existed).

That's a good idea, but only if you stop in and say hi . I'll give it a try and see how it works, but with my slow connection it will take a while. I will call it forum2 so you can check it later.
As for the previous version (the one working now), I installed from Snitz_Forums_2000_v3_1_sr_2.zip. The basic script, no mods.

Gor, on further thought, seeing that others are apparently having problems with the upgrade on ReadyHosting, I emailed ReadyHosting tech support to see if they would be willing to provide Poasters a mirror site to test the script. If they don't go for that idea, we can still try a test forum on our site. I'll let you know if they go for it.

That is Version 3.1 SR2 alright, that isn't it either then.

Gor, an update on our situation with ReadyHosting. They've agreed to a mirror testing site and we should have the DNS enabled later today.
We're definitely having server problems with our site. Even with my partner's broadband connection, file transfers are stalling out, and this morning I'm getting timing out errors.
I'll keep you poasted, as we say on Poasters.

The test forum is now set up on http://www1.poasters.com/forum, but we're still not getting the forum to load right. Same problem as before, only now even the admins can't log in since there's no login button. Here's what the page looks like:quote:

Setup.asp returns the 'need to upgrade database message' but logging in through the resulting dialogue as Admin isn't permitted.

That's the same path as for our forum on the regular server. Let me know if you need more info.
The SR2 version on our www.poasters server is still working pretty well, though the bug fixes and increased speed of the upgrade(for the admins, anyway)were really great. We would very much like to get this straightened out so we can use it.
