evol, can you please paste the code that displays the "You have X new private messages" and the image currently ?
It's quite easy to get the other image there |

evol, I can't see how you get that image using that code, but this might help ...
- cut lines 68-73 - paste them between lines 97 & 98 |

That image isn't used in the base code. You have to add that image yourself to make it show. It has been mentioned earlier in this topic. |

Has anyone considered creating PMs which are like vBulletin?
Problems that my users and I have is that no one is ever certain that they're over the limit of PMs and or that the PM is received or not if the user goes over the limit.
What I would like to see added to this PM mod:
1) a bar and text which tells them how much more PM space they have, example: Inbox contains 1 messages. You have 1 messages stored, of a total 50 allowed. Even the admin section of the Snitz PM mod does not tell you which option was selected so the admin cannot know unless by memory whether 20, 30, or more messages are allowed - I never remember and always reset it just in case. 2) a read-receipt (also called track messages) 3) cc field (visible to everyone who receives it) - currently the PM function is bcc. 4) be able to read the former message when replying by containing the text in the replies like regular e-mail. 5) this isn't a major wish, but the board also includes this function: Download all Private Messages as : XML | CSV | Text I think it's neat. 6) a forwarding function
Essentially, bring it up to par with other forums and make it act like internal e-mail.

Astralis; Take a look at my forum, and the private message feature, I have made changes like you suggested.
http://www.harchester.net/new-forum/default.asp User ID: Shelly Sutherland Password: shelly
1 - You will see along the top of each 'PM' page there is a menu bar, which states how many saved messages you are allowed (specidied in admin) and how many you have.
2- 'Track message' is already in place. If you go into your 'outbox' you can see (icon at the left of the pm) if its been read by its recipiant or not.
3- cc field. To be honest I dont see the point to it, and have no idea how to implement it.
4- is also already there! When you read a PM, you can reply to it (by clicking the 'reply' image at the top and it displays the original pm at the bottom. So to make it appear in the actual text box click on the "reply with quote" icon which is found along side the senders profile icons when you read their PM.
5- would be a fantastic feature, but I dont know how to imply it.
6- again, it is already there! There is a 'forward' icon when you read a PM!! |

Gareth,
That is really cool. Your site looks really nice. Will you be able to release the code for that? |

well I have put all my om files into a zip file: http://www.harchester.net/new-privatemessage.zip
You *could* upload these files and use them as they are in theory, but bare in mind I have made a few changes to the over all look, also I have used the avatar mod in the privateread.asp page. Also I have added the 'block member' (so I have included the dbs file).
But even if you cant use my files directly you can pick out the code for the top bit. |

Gotta say, looking at what you have done is making me feel like adding PM's and not coding up some kinda e-mail thingy.... Looks good man. |

if you have any problems just let me know. reply here/e-mail me/or pm me on my forum (I am 'Fletch'). Im always lurking about somwhere.
Maybe when I have a little more time, I will look into making this into a prober downloadable mod, based on the original PM mod, but with block members as standard, and the design changes I have here. |

PM's are just so simple to add, and on most of the other downloadable forum scripts they are 'standard' I just cant figure out why snitz wont make this standard feature in a future release. We discussed this last year, the they said they wouldnt because their aim was to cut down on bugs! This mod is the most used mod (maybe other than Actuve Users, which yet again is a standard thing!!) and its tried and tested. I think its safe to say its bug free now! |
