I've updated my process to include code as well...
A working version of the search can be found here:

I think the whole search system should be re-done. If VBulletin (yes i know its a php board) can do it in about 5 - 10 seconds, searching thousands of posts.. why cant we? Yes it might take weeks even months to do, but the end result is worth it. Snitz topic search feature is basically 1 of a few features within the software that is crap. Why is it crap? Lets say your site makes it to 1,000 or more posts.. If someone does a search for the word "web", and tells the search to look through all forums for topics containing the word web, it will basically take about 30 seconds and youll either end up getting the list of topics or youll end up getting an error because of a script timeout during the retrieval process. And no its not a Internet Connection Issue im on DSL. Thats why you see people shelling out the bucks to get better software, their community site is much too important to take a gamble like that. Also thats why you see some of the older sites featured in the Hall of Fame section have either disappeared off the face of the net, or they have switched to a php or .net board. But eh, what do I know. |

This process dramatically speeds up the process. I have yet to obtain a timeout using this mod. Its not lightning fast mind you, I still have some tweaking to do to it, but it is much faster than the packaged version... |

SQL Server users should take advantage of this: http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=54214
It has dramatically changed the search feature. Snitz has also implemented this concept and if you do a search here I think you'll agree that it is fast and timeouts are a thing of the past. |
