It's built-in security to make sure the person trying to access the profile is the person who owns the profile (or is an admin) and knows the correct password. Without that login, someone with a faked cookie (or if you forgot to log out and someone else is using your computer and thus your cookie) could go into your profile and edit it. I wouldn't remove it if I were you.

Hm.. is the normal Login then less secure , so that someone can login without Problems using your Account for posting , but isn't able to get into the profile then ?
It is secure but if you log in and click on "save password" your username and password (encrypted) are saved in a cookie on your computer. So if another person (on your computer) goes to this site they are automatically logged in. To prevent this person from changing your profile settings....

Exactly what I meant. Thanks ajhvdb If you share a computer and have the "save password" box checked when you log in, and don't manually log out, the cookie will stay on your computer for 30 days. Anyone using your computer will be automatically logged onto your forums with that cookie and will be able to post messages as if it was you who did that. To be able to change the profile however, they would have to know your password (which they can't get from the cookie because it's encrypted). Without that, they can't edit your profile.
