Because some are happy with the way they look. Others change them to suit their taste. If you'd like to see a good looking snitz site that was made with a few simply changes, check out Ez4arab's site at http://www.ez4arab.com/ez4arab/. BTW, Ez's site is a 3.3.05 site. Users have been customizing their snitz forums looks since it first came out. Go to the Show Off Your Forums forum and look through some of the post there to see some other great looking sites. |

@tomic: http://www.vbulletin.org -> the three different 'styles' look different from each other, and if you look at http://www.wmhub.net you again see a totally different look. *chalk them up*
James: My forums will be displayed on Saturday while i put the finishing touches to the active user system. *chalk them up*
RichardKinser: Yes some people might like the way they look, or maybe they have lucky stumbled across some free asp space, in one way or another and have found at that at present there is only one well known asp forum (although web wiz forum is becoming more popular). Not saying that all people do as the above says, but from what i have seen from snitz forums (the only one ive been a frequent visitor to was the old uktfcl one), not many people were a fan of the overall design.
Nikkol: cant argue with that - because ur making my point. it needs a few changes -> all forums have the same basic layout (sqaure table, thread info at the top etc etc) but its nice not to have to protect ur eyes from the harsh bare essentials.
@tomic (part2): Why dont i buy vBulletin? or use phpBB....cos i like ASP but, i personally, dont like any of the current ones on the market. They either have one thing or another, but not both like a lot of php boards have managed - so i prefer to code my own and, as long as i have spare time from my uni course - hope to be able to offer the forums to other 'deprived' asp users.
Again all down to personal opinion. You might like snitz, i dont mind it, but if i had a choice.... |

It certainly would add an entirely new community here at Snitz if it were possible to have downloadable skins. Each skin could have unique: 1) default colors 2) smiles 3) header cell images 4) layouts? (different positioning of navigation)
I agree that Snitz could be made more "designer friendly" so that it is not necessary to 'code' design changes. Rather, why not expand the capabilities of the interface by allowing skins?

if you read my first post, i never said there was anything wrong with the code (although looking at it, i put create instead of great - gg :P). Just the design....it could allbe included in like a header.inc where the tables are sorted for the top....the main thread/forumdisplay part has to stay the same or else it wont look like a forum - just the top bit and generally the icons etc. |

I could give you similar examples of Snitz sites that lok quite different and tonss of vBulletin sites that look like clones. I'm not going to waste my time. You seem more like a troll that works for vBulletin that is just here to waste time by asking why Snitz is not vBulletin. So go ahead and pull a few sites that look different out and don't bother going to Snitz sites that look enormously diferent so you won't realize just how wrong you are.
I also want to say that all these radically different sites took significant amounts of time to customize. That means hard, tedious work not install, edit one file and off you go. This applies to ALL forums and that's why 99% of all forums look exactly like the default. Pulling anecdotal examples out just proves hat a few people did a LOT of work to make their sites special. None of those examples where easy by any means.
This will apply to any forum you decide to go with. You could go with phpBB or vBulletin and end up asking them why you can't do the cool things their sites have. And they will say that it took hours upon hours of custom coding. Why do you think Snitz should be easier than any other forum?

All of the above are available if you try out the search feature. Go ahead, it doesn't bite.

are you skim reading? or have bad eye sight? or maybe you cant read so good while ur head is up places where the sun dont shine ;) Im not on about a total new revamp........hense the title - upgraded. If every page had an include like layout.inc and that had the layout for the top part of the forum, then that would make everything look a lot different....the first thing people see has a big impact (and in a forums case, its the top).
So if you could edit just that one include, it would take mere minutes (depending on your html table skills, or even CSS non-table layout design).
Its weird how some people are so 'stuck' in the past, a mere suggestion makes them feel like their pension is being taken away from them. |

I'm hearing supporters of the Status Quo and supporters of change.
Status Quo is winning. |

There are no plans to change the default look of the forum. Not now, or in the forseeable future. Does that answer your question? Can we end this discussion now? |
