I just downloaded Snitzy_Chat. The readme says that it works for all versions of Snitz but for 3.4 and higher it will need rework because of the response.write conversions. I have the changes if someone needs them.

I have two questions:

1) Was this actualkly tested under 3.4 or higher?
2) The Chat session displays are in a foreign language. I have trouble with my native tongue of english so understanding another language is very difficult for me. If anyone is using it and has the language converted to english I'd appreciate either the file(s) or a conversion chart. I can't get logged in as I don't know if it wants my id or password. Tried both and didn't get anywhere.

Thanks for the help.

Mike

lol - yes, I've tested it extensively Mike. Go back and find my responses by searching for Chat Mod. I'm currently trying to solve one last detail for 3.4.02 - everything's working except for retrieving user names.

Thanks for the response. It is kinda funny!

I did my search on Snitzy_Chat. I found a few things but mostly in reference to what MODs people were using, not help type items. I'll search on the Chat MOD for help.

Looking forward to your files. Let me know if I can help. But it has to be in English!

I have the user name working, but as declared in a previous post, the non-English part has me stumped. I read your other posts and in one place with an older date you have the answer for the user name. So I'm not sure what the latest status is. Again, let me know if I can help with the changes. I'm not an asp wiz but I'll do what I can to help.

BTW, I don't have global.asa file in my root dir. I guess Snitz does use or require one. I believe I can just create one and put your fixes in it, correct?

Thanks.

Yep - or you can download TMPJ's zip file directly from him or from this link: SnitzChat. My copy has the corrections within it. Follow the file instructions from his "readme.html" and then use the code lines from the "corrections.htm".

By the way, this is all in English.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to it. Just one small favor. Please fix the link, it does not work. I tried chopping it off like CarefreeComputing.net:3300/SnitzChat.zip and that did not work either. Tried ftp://CarefreeComputing.net:3300 and that worked but wanted an account and password.

Thanks.

After more playing in the address line I got it to work. I was able to read the ftp root dir. I don't know if you want that so you may want to readdress the permissions.

I'll looking at the zip file and try it. Thanks.

I downloaded the file, unzipped it in its own directory per instructions, and modified the inc.config.asp file. I made the front end a little different because I want to control when chat is done instead of having people chat all day about anything. Everything passed is the same. (I'd be happy to send you the frontend asp file if you want.)

Bottom line is this:

Admin screen only shows initialize. I cannot do anything else. I click on the button and it came back with no rooms (I had 1). Still only the initialize button. Is that correct?

Chat screen flashes on, another screen flashes on, and then goes away. I can see the URL sent from the function in the title bar of the first screen and then the second window just says Chat something - too fast for me to read.

Any thoughts? Appreciate any help.

Does the chat folder need to be writeable? I didn't see that anywhere in the instructions so it is not at this time. I put IE debug on and did not get any messages. I have no idea what is happening. Driving me nuts almost as bad as a foreign language displayed to a person whose english is substandard!

Thanks. I know you can get me out of this. I like what I see so far. Unfortunately, I don't see much.

Yes - I had that same issue when originally set up and no names were being passed to chat.

To get the rooms to initialize, simply click on the chat on your forum page - it'll create the rooms if none are created. Then, go back to Admin page, click on the chat administration link and you'll see the rooms listed (hopefully).

If there's a "chatter" listed with a numeric code above the chatrooms, kick him/her/it.

Now click on the chat link in forum top again and you should get in.

I wasn't sure if "Yes" meant yes, I had the same problem or yes, it needs to be writeable. So I made the dir writeable.

I clicked on chat so it went to a chat session. The displays flashed. I went to admin.asp, logged in, saw the rooms, clicked on initialize, they disappeared, clicked on chat, and the display flashed again.

Is there a specific dir that rooms are created in that needs to be writeable or is that in the chat dir?

BTW, when entering the chat password it is in clear text. Is that right?

Any ideas what next? Thanks.

Another question!

The readme.htm file shows the chat directory under the root directory. However the instructions say to upload to your forum directory. Which is correct? Does it make a difference?

I'm hoping to get this implemented soon but it looks like it is not going to happen.

Thanks.

The Chat directory must be under the forum directory.

The picture in the instructions needs changing. Thanks for the info.

I moved chat below my forum. The chat session works even though it gets an error. The admin session doesn't work. I get an error

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01f4'
Variable is undefined: 'conquerChatUsers'

/tsdac/forum/chat/admin.display.asp, line 71

I checked the global.asp and it is there. Should there be some other kind of definition? Chat and chat admin reversed themselves - chat works, admin doesn't!

I'm not sure why I am getting there problems. I followed the directions. Any thoughts?

Please advise what I need to do to fix the current problem. In the readme.htm it says "Thanks for downloading Tmpj's Snitzzy Chat 2.0 MOD" so I am assuming this is the latest version.

Thanks for the help.
