New Files up!
Mod Name: Front page news Mod Version: v1.50/v1.60 Tested on: 3.3.05 3.4.02 Databases: Tested on MySQL v3.23.40NT and MS Access 2000 Creator Name: Wesley Brown Creator Email: Burthold@yahoo.com Download at: www.wesworld.net/mods/default.asp View at: www.wesworld.net/texastgc/default.asp
changes from v1.20 Admin option to turn the news on and off display so it will not show up on the front page Cleaned up the dates on the front so it should conform to your date display in snitz better Added time stamps to the messages
Changes from V1.00 Converted everything to response.writes for 3.4. Now displays the correct forum name.
Changes from v.01 Admin now can delete old news News raps around on front page inside the alloted space for news added dbs file for easier setup
Notes: I wrote this to just display simple news on the front page.
Run the DBS setup file from the admin mod setup.
It works with MS-SQL,Access, and MySQL.
I use it to display messages to my board memebers so they don't have to check deep into the forums, or check their private messages. It is meant for small messages. It displays 4 messages and any of them can be added/deleted from the admin module. It isn't tied to any forums it has its own table. Easy to use easy to instal easy to get rid of :)
Enjoy.

I found a problem when installing your mod.
As instructed in your TXT file i installed the correct files and added the correct lines. Then i went to run the MOD in the admin section. As soon as i click the admin_mod_dbsetup.asp, it sits there for a while, then crashes .. Then it takes about 15-20 before i can access the forum!
Any idea why this is? I do see it doesnt wanna update the database either when its finished. C
Can you tell me what needs to be added/changed in the DB (Access2000) so i can otherwise do it manually ? Because the pages seems to work but can't find the tables in DB.
Thanks a lot,
Dave |

I don't know. What version of the forums are you using? I have never recived any real errors using the DBS file. I tested it on 3.4 and on 3.3.x I run it on my own site with no problems. More information would be a great help.

The dbs file itself will tell you what it is supposed to do. In this case, it looks like its adding a table called FORUM_NEWS with the following fields: MEMBER_ID (number), N_DATE (text), N_TEXT (text) .

I don't know what to tell you its a pretty simple DBS file. I'll take a closer look at it and see if there is something wrong with the archive. You are the only person having a problem with the DBS file that I have talked to. I will be releasing a new version of the Front Page News mod in a couple of weeks adding some new admin funtions for more control. I will also be using my own setup files and not DBS so there should be no problems.

Updates comming: Now handles URL's and email addresses. You can turn it on or off so it won't display at all. Just like it wasn't installed. has the time stamp on the news so if there are more than one news post per day you know which one is newer corrected datetime formatting should now follow your forum settings for datetime increased news text to 255 charaters 55 more for those who like to have longer messages GetCurrentIcons used in the 3.4 version to make it compliant
Files will be up later today maybe tomorrow if I feel like it is stable for release.

Did not do the GetCurrentIcons yet. I will add this code to all my 3.4 mods asap. Sorry it came late I had a nasty computer crash last week.

I am having three problems with Front Page News v1.50 on Snitz v3.4.03.
First, th news when posted only shows the time, not the date and time. So if someone looks at the news six weeks after it was posted they would never know it was posted six weeks ago.
Second, the admin option gives me a weird display screen. When I go to add news, I see a display that has neither the on or off buttons checked. When I click on on and submit the change, I get that the news has been deleted. In the database, in the table FORUM_NEWS_CONFIG, the only entry is SHOW_NEWS has a 1 in it and NUM_ITEMS is blank.
Third, in the add news display, there is no entry for the one news item that I have. The entry does display, as mentioned above, and it is in the table. I show a blank field in the display and an unchecked radio button.
I even redid the DBS file to "reinitialize" the database.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Mike
