Please post your reviews........ i would like to call this PMView add in mod beta
I have installed this mod into my forum, and the principle is great, however at the moment, I am finding it very limiting. As an admin, I find it helpful, to be able to review the PM's which have been sent, especially, as it can help towards the privacy and security of my users. If they feel that they are being harassed, then I can view the mesasges that they have received, and who sent them and take appropriate action, however... The current view of this is not very helpful To make this mod really helpful, then I would need the ability, to view all of the PM's sent to or by a specific user, (a date range may help with this also...) As I said, it's a great facility to have, but will need some work, before I can find it really useful. I look forawrd to see how it develops... Keep up the good work.... Phil |

First of all, i love this MOD. There is only one thing that bothers me cosmetically though. the "Private Messages" heading under "statistics" should be one cell to the left. I think it could also have the option to make it a separate table rather then part of the statistics. Otherwise very useful mod! :)
Cheers
just move the include above the do statistics
I have done this, and moved the inbox to the top of the screen. That way, users can see if they have messages, without having to go to the bottom of the screen (helpful if you have a lot of forums...) It works fine, and sits as a hover box at the top.
I changed default.asp as follows...
Find the code at the top of default.asp <!--#INCLUDE FILE="config.asp"--> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="inc_func_secure.asp" --> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="inc_sha256.asp"--> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="inc_header.asp" --> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="inc_func_member.asp" --> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="inc_moderation.asp" --> <!--#INCLUDE FILE="inc_subscription.asp" -->
and at the bottom of this add in
<!--#include file="privatemess.asp"-->
Makes a nice little box, which will only appear when you are logged in, and appears at the top of the page.
(I'm learing how this stuff works now! Hurrah!)
If I've done this wrong, then please feel free to correct me... |

These would be nice features. Either maybe... 1) Limit the number of messages per inbox or 2) Limit the number of messages a user can send in a specific period (eg day/week/month) I was gonna ask the same question myself, but someone obviously had the same ideas..... (Great minds think alike eh?)
One more question (i must be annoying everyone now, with all of these ideas...) Is there, or will there be, any nicer buttons for the pm functions (In/Outbox, Send, Prefs, Member lists.) In comparison to the rest of the forum, they look a little bit unfriendly... (I know that i can make my own if i want to, but i just wondered if there would be any nicer ones in the pipeline...) I have downloaded at least one other set of these icons. You could always log into Hotmail and do a Save as...
I will look at the other features. Limiting the number of PM's sent should be easy enough. It should be adjustable in the admin area though.

My conscience won't let me add this MOD. I don't want to spawn a herd of John Ashcrofts reading everyone's mail.

You KNOW you want this. Just admit it.
Btw, did you get the PM Saved added? Also, did I miss your answer to my previous questions?

I'm sorry about that. You will be happy to hear that I am about 95% done adding those 2 features to the Private Messages Maintenance page. Those 2 features being a maximum # of PMs allowed and an On/Off toggle.
I just can't see a need to view anyone's PMs. If there's a problem then someone will come to you with it. If it's really, really bad you can download the entire database. That way at least there would be a compelling need and it wouldn't be so casual.

OK, I have added 2 new features.
Maximum Allowed Private Messages or the PMLimit Private Messages On/Off toggle
The menus and links to Private messages have been adjusted to reflect these new features.

I was just kidding about that. I was refering to adding the PM Saved MOD where, I believe, the member has an option of saving their message so it doesn't get deleted accidentally and/or in cleanup. Did you download the zipped file I provided via link in my previous post? What about pager features?

If I wanted to include the new mail notification (included in the zip) OUTSIDE of my forum directory - how would I go about doing this??
Thanks |

And what is line 341? You did the database setup first didn't you? M_PMRECEIVE should be there if you went into the admin panel's MOD setup page and executed the PM dbs script.
