Hey guys, way the differences here?
I have been a user of Snitz Forums for about a year now. I really like the forum software and the job you guys did with it. I’m running version 3.3.03 with an Access 2000 database. I updated it with the security patches and several MOD’s. I’m really skeptical about upgrading to V3.4 because I’m happy with the current one except for a few of the V3.4 features. I really want the “Jump to Last Post & Quick Reply” that is offered in V3.4. I have tried these MOD’s to my current version with little success. This would make me tend to want to go with V3.4 along with some of the other security features with it.
I have read through several of the V3.4 topics in the Announcements and scattered in other forums and they have answered bits and pieces to my questions. If you don’t mind, can you satisfy my curiosity with the questions about the future install of V3.4?
#1 - Am I correct that “NO” MOD’s for the past versions will work in V3.4 unless you re-write the MOD yourself or alter the existing ones? I really like my Active Users 3.5, Avatar MOD, & Smiley MOD and would like to retain them if possible.
#2 – Am I correct that I can retain my databases information when installing the new V3.4 files, direct the config.asp to the database and under setup.asp click update database? What about the MOD fields that I have installed to the current database if I can’t use the current MOD’s? What happens to them?
Sorry to ask because I’m sure that you have already answered these questions a million times by now.
Thanks, Jason

Version 3.4 should upgrade your database for you from setup.asp.
Alot of the mod fields wont matter, and if the mod developer is worth his (or her) salt then when you install the new version it will either update or clean up the mod's old fields.
As for the mods you listed, someone has already said they are going to be updating each of those. Active Users, in fact, is already out for 3.4 (see Active Users 4.0.1 @ the Snitz Exchange)
And yes, MOST mods will need to be partially tweaked, but it only took me about 10 minutes to tweak out active users, and fix a few old bugs to boot! |

I'd wait for a month or so to see what happens. |

Thanks,
Nathan, I did notice last night before making this topic that you have updated the Snitz Exchange to show Active User 4.0 to be compliant with V3.4. I hope I have better luck installing it to V3.4 than 3.3.03. I never got it to work correctly with my current version and this is following the instructions in the zip and all the (trouble) topic pages on this in the MOD forum.
Thanks for having the patients and answering my questions and I look forward to installing the newer version now. |
