Just have a couple of questions concerning version 3.4
First off, I am hosting forums on my machine. I have them installed in FolderA (Snitz ver 3.3.03 with security updats and mods), with the DB being in FolderDB, to prevent folks from messing with it (FolderDB is notaccessible via the web, so the DB is safe from downloading).
When ver 3.4 is released, I want to install it in FolderB in order to set it up and get it ready for posting to the production site. My concern comes when I do the DB update for 3.4. If I have 3.4 pointing at my live DB (so I don't have to change the location later in the config files), will that hurt my running the version I am currently using? Or should I use a seperate DB while getting 3.4 ready for deployment, and then just change the config file once I am ready? (with updating the DB at this point as well...
Also, from the looks of things, the only mods I will have to re-install will be the Poll and Active User mods. Have any of the 3.4 development team updated any mods for use with 3.4? Or do I have to wait until the original developers of those update them?)

This question has been asked and answered. However, I'll be nice and tell you too
I've upgraded my forums in exactly the same manner as you are planning to do. The problem with that is that IF a post is made (specifically a new topic) after you've upgraded, it won't show in the correct place in the new forums until you post a reply using the new forums. It won't hurt your current forums no fields will be deleted, but I would advise you to shut your forums down during the upgrade so nobody will be able to post.
Also, if you database contains fields that were added when you installed MODs, and you can't installed those MODs right away, I'd advise you to make sure those fields are set to allow "zero length" so they won't give any errors when you try to post something without entering a value in those fields.
Let me know if I left something out |

if you update your v3.3.03 database for v3.4, you'll no longer be able to use it in v3.3.03. This is because of the password encryption, no one will be able to login on the v3.3.03 forum. |

ok, so my best bet will be to just create a clean install of 3.4, get it competely ready for use on the live site (using an empty DB, or a copy of my current DB, so that I know it all works), and then once all is in readyness, move it across, and update the live DB
Just wanted to be sure, as I do not want to loose everything |
