I have set up two separate forums on my site. One being public, a person just needs to register, and a private forum. These are in separate folders different databases. With the private forum I want to allow only select members to join. My thoughts are to set up a log on form that would allow a new person to request a sign on. This information would then be e-mailed to me and I would approve or disapprove the sign on. In either case I would respond with an e-mail informing the applicant. The applicant whom I approved I would enter their information into the database and assign a temporary password. If the person already has a sign on then they could enter their userid and password and enter the forum. So I am asking for opinions on this idea and sugestions for implementation. I may be all wet and going to more work than is necessary. Thanks!
You can try the Approve Registrations mod, at Snitz Exchange (MODs link below). It will ensure that every registrant needs to be approved by you before it's accepted as a member of the forum, so looks like it's what you need.
Is there a reason to use 2 seperate forums? You can make private forums along with the public forums. All you need to do is click on the option to allow hidden forums and when you set up one of these private forums you can allow only people on a list (that you choose).
