I don't think MySql supports the UNION statement though, and it would be nice to have something that works on all the Snitz certified databases <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Are you serious?? That's going to cause a major hitch in how I'm allowing sorting on the topics page!!(I'm using a union obviously)<img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>
Now I'll have to find a work around for that. Like I didn't have anything else to do...

Did you have to do further modifications for this, or just what has been discussed.
I'm still having a few coding issues (although it's still new to me, and to be expected). Do you know if the slash.zip that's posted is the "final" for this mod?

Thanks... I have not checked the .zip lately but I think he's taken it as far as he needed it... thats why the rest of us have picked it up from there. I am working on it for my own stuff as discussed.. its slow going due to my time constraints but when I do get it worked up I will post it.

First off, I've been following Snitz forums for a good few months now, just haven't registered yet. So:

AnimeDJ: you had me worried there. For a moment I thought you were talking about a news management/Snitz hybrid, and I wanted to be the first of the kind (I could only find the seemingly non-existent ASPSlash and ASP Weblog, a forum and news script, but not quite a Slash-a-like).
Anyway, I think that you could extend this to producing short summaries of each message (like on Slashdot, e.g. "Blah blah blah... read more [12 replies]"). This would be especially useful on forums where people tend to give topics ambiguous (sp?) titles. It's a great add-on, small and cosmetic but giving the forum a 'professional' touch. Nice work!

I feel kinda stupid, but I guess that's why we have the forum :)
Could someone post their *working* code for this (db edited, of course) for assistance? I'm trying with the code that was posted previously, but am failing to get it :(

'lo everybody.. I'm going to answer some answers about the mod now..
it's a final release.. for version 2, yes... I still haven't pick up the new version of the board (I'll do it soon) so I'll seeing into upgrading the mod with new features.
The desing of what to show it's based on the slashdot site so that's why it usually shows the latest topics, no replies, it's a more what's new on the board feature.
Next version I'll make it more configurable so I'm starting to accept new requests as I'll start coding the new version next month.
Also, the best way to reach me is by posting in the forums, as usually my email get so backup that sometimes I just feel like erase big chinks of email without even read it (bad habit, but as much as usually I get spammed..) so post your request here or on the board on my site.
well, guess that's it.. new request for mods are also welcome..

Ok, heres what I have so far... let me know what you think... its all hooked into my forum and allows you to test the 3 different ways of display as well as the variable number of topics shown and character length.
Now... eventually I will integrate the three new fields into the config db and add the controls to the features section of the snitz admin. Its all setup to work with the new Mod Commander (Awesome BTW) so when done you can slip it right in.
Try it out and see what you think... there is very little formatting since I have not integrated the color preferences of the board into it yet (although I may just leave it like this so you can easily integrate into the remote page you intend to show it on. In which case the forum colors could be unflattering).
Ok.. enough stalling, try it out and let me know the holes.
