Lock the account. That will prevent him from posting.
Are you also using the 3.3.05 version? Just want to be sure he's not using a security breach to post on your site.

There aren't any I'm aware of. Not sure how he's pulling it off then.

Hi,
I may be wrong, but a deleted account is not the same as a locked account. The name "n/a" will still remain in your database as long as some of the posts made by the troublesome member are left in the forum.
You lock an account by logging as forum administrator, then going to "members", selecting the name of the troublemaker, then clicking on the padlock.
But to permanently delete an account (and get rid on the "n/a") you must first delete all the posts made by the "deleted" user.
If you don't want to delete all the posts made by "n/a", have you tried to lock the "n/a" account? That should work.

But locking accounts and deleting accounts doesn't keep somebody from re-registering under a new username. Is there a way to ban them by their e-mail address or I.P. ?
Thanks, JoJo

Unfortunately this won't help unless they are static I.P.'s.
How do I go about pre-approving all members?
Thanks, JoJo

Thats why I've integrated a cookie ban into IPGate, which is a ban MOD currently posted, but in beta testing mode.

I just came across that cookie ban in one of the Mod forums, so I'm going to try that.
Thanks, JoJo

The above posts address the ban by ip. The best way to ban the email is to upgrade to 3.4 and use the "validate email" feature along with the "require unique email". Then when the user starts acting up, lock their account (don't delete it) and they will no longer be able to receive their confirmation key at that same e-mail address because they will not be able to use that e-mail address again to register with (the require unique email is available with 3.3 too). With 3.4 and both features enabled, they will have to use a new and valid email address if they wish to register again.
Note that this doesn't prevent them from opening a new hotmail mail address and using it . |
