What Active Users version are you using?

I don't know. How do I figure that out?

Probably by going to MOD setup in the Admin Options, you should get the description of the available mods to install. Just find out what's shown there for Active Users.

It's not in that list.

Maybe you deleted the dbs file after installation. Try to open the source files and see if you have any info.

I'm asking this because I may try to help with Active Users 4.0, but I can't do it with previous versions.

I honestly don't know what version it is. It was installed prior to me becoming an Admin at my forum and the source code doesn't tell me what version it is. If you want to take a look at the file, I'd be willing to email it to you.

When did you become an Admin? How long was that? I really don't want to look at anything else other than 4.0, cause I'd need to learn it all over again. If you have a dbsxxx.asp file you can email it to me (ruirib @ computer.org) and I'll have a look.

I became an Admin in early January of 2002. I have checked the site and can not find any dbs*.asp files or any *.dbs files that are related to Active Users. If you would like, I can email you the source to active_users.asp...

That means you're using a version prior to 4.0, which was released quite a bit later. I suggest that you start a new topic with a title like "Security problem in Active Users 3.x" at this same forum, so that you can get Nathan's (the MOD creator) attention. He is not here as often as in the past, but he visits anyway and he may be able to help you. As I wrote before, I'm not familiar with Active Users versions previous to 4.0.

Active Users 3.5 uses a specific table called FORUM_ONLINE.
Active Users 4.0 deletes this table with the new dbs file and replaces it with another table during setup.

Look at your active users related files and do a keyword search for FORUM_ONLINE. If it is there, then more than likely you are using AU 3.5 ... note, the WhosInside MOD uses Active Users 3.5, so unless someone has modified that MOD, it's a good bet that you have 3.5.

Good luck,

Etymon

Just found this from another topic posted just yesterday ... NOTE: The title of this topic is "Active Users version 4.0" but it might apply to your situation.

A quick heads-up... I found that when someone was in a private forum it would show "viewing private forum", but when they were viewing a topic in a private forum, nothing showed up, it was just blank. Upon investigation of active_users.asp, I discovered that there were a few instances of "strOnlineLocation" that need to be changed to "strPage". Working perfectly now.

Thank you Etymon. It seems as though I've got v3.5 since active_users.asp uses the FORUM_ONLINE table.

Since this appears to be an outdated version, how do I "uninstall" v3.5 and upgrade to v4.0?

First you'd need to get to the readme file and go by each code change, and revert it. Then you'd probably need to delete the FORUM_ONLINE table and eventually any other DB change done by the mod.

Then download 4.0 from Snitz Exchange and install it according to the readme.html.

I managed to do the v4.0 upgrade in about 45 minutes and it works great. Solved my original problem too!

Thanks
