I was hacked and in the process of trying to restore ran into problems that have taken me HOURS and HOURS trying to fix. First problem... someone told me to upgrade to 2000, which I did, but my '97 database was conSIDerably different, so that opened up a myriad of problems. I proceeded to compare databases and spent hours trying to make the 2000 database work with the topic and members tables that I wanted to salvage.

I cannot copy over my reply table... just wont work period!! I got the forum to work, but can SOMEONE PLEASE tell me why on earth i'm getting the error that you see on the homepage of my forum?????

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a005e'
Invalid use of Null: 'cint'

/garage/inc_functions.asp, line 807

To upgrade the database, all you should have needed to do I think was open your '97 one up then go 'save as' and create a new one in '00 format (also then retaining a backup copy).

Ruirib's probably more knowlegeable about that than I am though, I'm just curious as to why your trying to copy tables between the two databases ?

Also did you update the connetion string at all to use the correct drivers for a '00 database ?

Whenever I try to open an Access 97 database in Access 2000 I get a message that it's an old database and I should convert it. I then go to Tools > Database Utilities > Convert Database > To Current Access Database Version. Then choose a location and name for the newly converted database and voila, you're done in less than 5 minutes.

Well the previous posters have already covered all of the relevant issues, but there are two things bugging me?

What exactly was the process you used to "upgrade" your database?

What do you mean when you say your database was considerably different?

well i already tried that route. i converted my old database ('97) into 2000 using the Access convert function. i had all kinds of errors.. such as you could open threads, but none of the replies were there. soooooo.. i did a comparison of my backed up version and a 2000 version and noticed all kinds of new fields in half of the tables. so i tried getting my backed up version updated.

anyway.... Davio... that did fix the registration process!

i still have that annoying error message on my homepage though!

i failed to mention a very crucial piece of information....

the backed up database i had was a MONTH old... and i had, in the meantime, updated my database and all the related files to a newer version 3.03... hence all my problems. i am trying to make my old database work with the newer version of snitz.

Here is some free advice: setup your forum again, with your config.asp pointing to your old database (make sure you keep a backup at all times, and you can change the format to Access 2000 before you do this procedure). When you run setup.asp you'll be "invited" to upgrade your database to the current version: accept that. Setup will upgrade your database for you.

You should do this with a base Snitz code version. Then if you have mods installed, apply the dbs files associated with each mod. When you finish the mod installation process then you can use the database with your current version of the code.

If you didn't upgrade the DB format to Access 2000 at the beginning of the process, then you should do it as the last step.
