Q1: any pointers to the code / mod that does this ??? Q2: can this be displayed anywhere on my website - i.e. away from the forum - as long it is within my domain ??

The drop down menu that states "Show posts within last 30 days" etc
Don't know about your first Q, but for your second Q the answer is yes. Look at the code for the pull down list. You can use any of the values used there to replace the value in the piece of code you pasted.
