Hi, recently had a lot of my forums, topics and threads deleted without my knowledge. Has anyone experienced something similar. I thought, other than admin, no one else would be permitted to make such deletions. Any idea how I can prevent this from happening in the future?

hi ruirib, i still can't access my forum at certain times of the day. this is driving me crazy. i really want to try upgrading my database. you mentioned that i will have difficulty backing up my database on my own if you helped me upgrade it to SQL. Will i have a similar problem if its upgraded to access 2000 or 2002? if not, would you be so kind as to help me with the upgrade. however, moving forward, please advise what software i should get to maintain a healthy forum with maybe a 5Mb database. is access 2000 or 2002 sufficient?

Access 2000 or 2002 will certainly improve. Email me your database, I'll upgrade it. You'll be able to backup the database just like Access 97, not even the file name will change. Beware that your file size will increase with Access 2000/2 since strings are kept in Unicode, contrary to what happened in Access 97, thus taking more storage space.

taking up more space is fine with me...no problem there...what happens if there is a new post between the time i send you the database and the time you return it to me?

It will be lost. You need to close the forum while I do it. I'll be up for about another half hour. You may try to send it to me now, or maybe tomorrow. You can contact me on MSN Messenger (ruirib @ computer.org) or Yahoo Messenger (ruirrib) to check that I can do it, just before you send the file, to ensure the smallest possible down time for your forum...
