The problem with the clustered index is that the data is sorted as the index itself. Insert something that needs to be inserted at the middle of the index and that means changing table data also. That can have a heavy effect on performance, since it may mean moving big amounts of data.
Clustered indexes should be used applied to columns where values are to be sequential, to minimise the effect I just wrote about...
