Hey guys. I recently opened a new forum on my site, and a ton of ny visitors who I don't know personally arrived. Before it was just my friends etc etc. So I thought I better get some protection against spammers/trolls.

I downloaded the Banning By Ip MOD, and followed the instructions and uploaded it. I am using Access 2000 and as soon as I uploaded it, my forums just dissapeared. I guessed they hadn't been deleted it and it was probably something to do with the config file, so I uploaded a back up of my config file and they came back to life.

I have entered all the code correctly into the config file but it doesn't seem to work. If somebody could e-mail me a detailed step by step or has any ideas on what could be causing my forums to vanish everything I upload the changed config file, I'd be extremely grateful. I'm not in any huge rush, but I do want to get this sorted as quick as possible.

Thanks for listening.

William

Hey guys, I have fixed the error (human on my part - sorry) and the forums work.

But I was just wondering if it is possible to allow my MOD's to ban users as they see fit. As far as I can see, only Admin can ban users, and I mostly use my "Marby" account when posting on the forums.

Thanks

Yeah, I thought that right after posting. Sorry :-)

But what I want to do is give my Moderators the power to ban without making them an admin. It's not important but sometimes, I'm not about and my forums get a bit busy...

I guess it's not possible, seeing as you said make myself an admin, so I'll have to think hard about who I make an admin.. I guess that'll just be my girlfriend ;) if she goes off me I'll soon find out when my forums dissapear...

Perhaps you can make some changes to the Ban MOD's codes that'll allow your moderators to use the function too? I haven't tried that MOD myself so I don't know the codes, but perhaps it's possible.

It's better to let your moderators mail you or post in a special forum, which your members can see or enter, when they think someone should be banned. That way you'll be sure nobody will get banned because of personal reasons for the moderators.

Yeah, that's true. Thanks. I have a staff forum where my Staff on my web site hang out, and I guess they could tell me there.

Thanks for your help :)

I'll have a look at the code and see if it can be edited to work...we'll see.

Thanks.
