Riddle me this though Dave, can someone subscribe to a locked forum/category?
Yup. Didn't really think it would hurt. If you don't like that, it would just take an extra SQL statement to check the status before allowing a subscription....

no... this is good... it enables us to make an "Anouncemetns" forum and allow people to subscribe... but we are the only ones who can post to it :) Hence... a "News/Anouncments" only forum
Good call on this one!

Dave,
It seems like you have implemented the same stuff as the MOD I've been working on lately. Is that so? Maybe I have been working the last couple of weeks for nothing?
Is it possible to download your MOD?

It sounds basically similar, but I wouldn't say you've worked for nothing. You've already got it documented and ready to go for people to use now. My version will be incorporated into the next release (along with topic moderation), but I haven't taken the time to document it thoroughly for broad release. So, no you haven't wasted your time at all.

I will agree with dve, some users who have heavily modded forums will not want to upgrade to the next release, so your mod will be useful for them, keep up the good work.
