Somebody recently mentioned to me about a new virus that travels via address books/e-mails and lays dormant for 14 days before eating up your hard drive , so naturally, being concerned I had a look into my c drive to see if it was there, guess what, it was!

So before deleting it, i thought i'd check out the properties.

Its name is Sulfnbk.exe and its sitting in the following directory:

c:windows\command

I have to admit, it does have a funny looking icon, but is it really a virus, or is someone creating a hoax??? I know the first thing that will come into your heads is DELETE, but how could something sitting there so long, undetected by anti-virus software, be really a virus?

Please put my mind to rest.

Yes this is a hoax, a rather old one and the only harm that can be done is that you actually deleted the file.
I left it here in the announcement forum to point to the McAfee site (there are others, but this one I remember easiest).
Here you can find recent new real viruses:
http://vil.mcafee.com/newVirus.asp
And here you can find all the hoaxes (old and new):
http://vil.mcafee.com/hoax.asp

Here you'll find info on yours:
http://vil.mcafee.com/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=99084
It also explain how you can restore the file if you allready deleted it.

Never ever forward mails about viruses to other people without at least checking personally on a site you can trust that it really is a virus ! (please)
A hoax that causes enough unneeded trafic can be considered a virus, but in this case the people that want to warn others are the real cause.
