I know there's a code that checks the cookie but I don't know what it is and can't find the topic about it either.
But what about people that delete their cookies regularly? I delete them about once a week and if I would be a member of your forums I'd be told to re-register every time I've deleted them.

How can I get to your forums? |

DOH! that's what happens when you stay up all night trying to customize the forum...you forget what the URL is LOL!

Yeah, what you say is a good point. However, there are some people in the go community that are pretty...um...well, you know.
I don't want someone getting lots of usernames and spamming the board, basically.
If you have another idea how to avoid that, I'm certainly open to it.
Thanks for the response, Frutzie! Seems like you're always helping someone out

lol ... it's amazing how sometimes you don't miss sleep until someone tells you you've messed up on something Nice forums although I'd make the text a little smaller...

Uhhh... I'm not sure what you mean but do I want to know?

Well the easiest way to get around that would be making all forums for members only. That way only members can get in there and everyone who isn't logged in will get the message that they'll have to register or log in.

I do my best and hope I'll be able to help someone (surprisingly I'm having more success every day ).

2 ways to help prevent this is to turn on the unique email address required option in the admin settings. And to also install the 'random password' MOD which I think (can't be sure I have never used it) forces users to wait until they've received their password via email before they can use the forums. This basically ensures that they enter a valid email address.
Unfortunately its not going to stop someone who's dead set on registering multiple names, I generally once a month go through my DB and clean up multiple user names by using a combination of checking their IP's and other fields for similiaritys.

The random password mod indeed makes newly registered members wait for an e-mail in which they will find a password which has been "generated" for them. After they've received the e-mail they'll be able to log in and edit their profile to change the password to something else.
It is indeed a good idea to install that together with the "require unique e-mail" option turned on. |
