Ken, I cannot understand what the reason is. We know that special (never) SW is needed for editing unicode/utf-8 encoded files. Also what you type in non-unicode mode will be corrupt. Mostly this can be solved by global find/replace thou.
This is what I asked to those who sent me the LangPacks (unfortunatelly you are not in the list because Taku sent it to me):
quote:
' ATTENTION, THIS FILE IS UTF-8 FORMATTED. PLEASE EDIT IT WITH UTF-8 ENABLED SOFTWARE ' NotePad 2000 and NotePad XP will do fine. Turn word wrap on and maximize the window for best view of it. : : : 3) It seems that UTF-8 encoding in LangNNNN.asp files is a must for further development. Do you have UTF-8 enabled development software? : :
All answered YES.
Please inform me if I have anything missing.
Bozden,
Plz refresh my memory - what this was about? Date format???? Sorry but don't recall well about this one.
(Also, I didn't mean to insult your knowledge base...guess I just went a bit big mouth on terminology.....)

I would tend to agree with LeoRat in that both unicode and non unicode formats should be made available. I've been having problems with text editors (Visual InterDev 6, Wordpad) using unicode (utf-8) that I have not had with Shift-JIS Japanese encoding.
Tests for the introduction of utf-8 encoding on one of my sites has introduced text display problems that did not exist under the previous Shift-JIS version.

Oh, I see... I didn't get any answer from you. Perhaps I didn't send it to you. Can you e-mail me with your latest working e-mail address (I remember that you changed yours), so that I can send it to you?

No, you don't insult me... You've always been better in terminology . I just do not want to make v4 more important than it i nows. Lets solve 3.4 first, then we'll need a lot of time to correct every issue, from layouts to encodings. < |

Congrats on V3.4.
Taku, I found the file you sent to me... Don't you remember it with title "For development to continue" and asking about calendars, date-month translations? < |

I recall I replied with Japanese date formats and continued additional discussions on how to render them properly as well as possible calender formats for Japanese, Western, and Emperor date format...and concluded for a recommendation for not using Emperor date format as it contains special chars which could not be properly represented unless hardcode the special chars. Don't reacall the title... but it was in one of forum topics somewhere..
BTW, my member email address at yahoo is still ok but it is the last I normally check. I use hotmail accounts more. True, I don't have any MSN email anymore...
Taku
Sent you my yahoo and hotmail email addresses....< |
