Almost finished with the text translation, I'm testing and updating to the latest forum build.

You can play with it in http://www.piggus.net/forum

Hi, I am thinking to do chinese Simplified translation myself, but don't know what to modified, i know that we need to tranlate the contents in the LangXXX.asp, and the few lines in the config.asp.....
Do we need to create a LangXXXX.asp file for a new language??? Does the number in the file name-LangXXXX.asp effects???? is the font a matter, for example change to some chinese fonts???
please help!!! if i tranlate successfully i will share it....
thanks!!!

Hmm..... There are a lot of dialects in you language. Do you know what others are doing? I cannot understand it . Maybe you can start with the work they have done so-far, thats for not to duplicate work. It takes a lot of time!

You can find the necessary info on the test site (see my signature). Make sure you also downloded the the latest fixes from the second link. Read the Quick Guide for Translators first. Yes the number is to differentiate between the Language Packs, find yours from the reference on the test site.

The HTML charset definition has to be specified in the language file, and most of the browsers include the fonts or ask for downloading. Won't this solve your problem?

For sure you will success ...

About you signature:

HTML is off in these forums. Make sure you learn first how the software works. There may be some concept depending changes in another language. Read the FAQ in the software and here on the site. You could form your signature like:

You had to do it like this:

I also edited your post so that you can edit and see how it's done.

Feel free to ask here if you have any questions.

A suggestion:

Would the developer who helped on Tradisiton Chinese LCID 1028 make the language pack file as well as the character translation itself in utf-8 format. This is necessary in a multilanguage forum, only utf-8 will display characters smoothly when user switch among different locale.

In fact, to make a completed International release, all pages need to be in utf-8 page. A example is: the language selection itself is not showing any good character other than 'English-US' (when English is default).

As demonstrated in http://www.websitetrans.com/translators/forums2002/, every page in this forum (even 1028) regardless language locale, immediately trigger IE to be in utf-8 encoding, given the 'auto select' checked.

So, it appears there is a version 1028 in utf-8 format already, however, it's not avilable from the working group developer's site http://www.piggus.net/forum (it's a big5 format).

Don't you all think the utf-8 version should be the official version verse the big5 version, which can only be used stand alone in a single language (traditional chinese in this case) forum.

Russel, actually the translation in that site is the version I released last year (see all the *s are still there). I personally know some people who did part of the translations in the forum code in their own sites but did not release the code (since it would be a mess to share), so I took the liberty to do all the dirty work.

I thought I read somewhere in another thread that the utf-8 project took the current version of the translations and convert into utf-8, but since I use Big5 everyday (and those who use Chinese Windows) I did not bother the conversion at present and I know it's not that hard to convert. I would of course provide the files when the system became mature.

Of course it would be nice if the utf-8 project people could make a note to me that they are using my translations , I would be more than willing to help.

The utf-8 format is superior to big5, which will only works in a single langugae environment, but any different langugage character (think content here) in this environment will have problem to display, where utf-8 will always works regardless it's a multilingual or a single language OS/forum/content/etc.

I've had a version of 1028 (Chinese Trad) in utf-8 format (not the big5 version from your site) recently, it looks great and completed. Plus the gif files from the big file you just claimed you released last year, the pack is completed, at least I don't find any more work need to be done for it. (don't understand why it is not release to this forum for at least beta testing).

I am using 1028 now, would you confirm if the 1028 looks completed?

Russel, I don't mind people used my work in any way anyhow since it is a public domain software, but I want to make it straight that the pack you are using is still my incomplete work released last year (you see it is almost done, because all the untranslated verses are in the admin and help sections). Where did u get the file anyways?

martopiggus, I apologize if there is any infringing feeling caused by a file you mentioned above. I passed the unicode converted 1028 (Big5) I had to Russel upon his request...and seems that I sent him an older version that I had. If any bad feelings this caused, I extend my apology.

I am one of unicode forum user/tester, because of my interest in a multilingual forum, esp. CJK. Thus, translating/updating 1041 (Japanese) and was playing with both a locale encode version (Shift-JIS) and unicode (utf-8) version.

BTW, I am not sure whether there is an official unicode workgroup, although I am experimenting on some language combos, and some others with more than EN plus 1 bilingual (or single). Unicode issue will be most likely determined by the core development team, esp. with Bozden and his international version development planning, I believe.

Also, there is no "superiority" issue related to unicode vs a sigle locale lang deployment, in my opinion, it all depends on a design and usage requirement, as you say. Most likely, locale designers in Japan, for example, would not really care more than Japanese and English in most cases, and most likely to deploy Shift-JIS or EUC encoding schemes rather than unicode, unless a forum is to be really multilingual.

Anyway, I just want to drop a line of little apology as it appears that there is a certain ill feeling developed. BTW, your 1028 translation/localization is very good, and congratulations. I know it takes a lot of your efforts...

Sincerely,
Leorat
