Go to post.asp to post/edit some topic/reply. In the middle of writing, change the languge. Two things will happen:

1) Non-critic one: The blue table size will change (in one language it will be smaller), although the screensize setting on the form and in the cookie are correct.

2) Critic-one: The page reloads and all of your writing will be lost. This is also true for other form filling pages.

The first may be cookie related. The solution of the second can be cookie related. One other solution for #2 can be to disable the selector on these pages.

Need input on these.

What do you think about flaimo's suggestion to make the language selector only available in profile.
The other side of this is - what about guests?

Another way could be to make the selector only available in default.asp

That will be done later. There are a lot of issues left related to v3.3x. I don't want to touch the database at this point.

I don't think anybody would have a problem if the language selector wasn't on these two pages. If anyone's going to change languages, wouldn't they have done that already? Keep it simple...

The selector is only enabled in some of the pages - coming in v4b04...

May not be directly related to this particular language selector item, but very curious to know whether you thought of enabling a browser language preference detection on Snitz... what I mean is:
(1) Enable a feature to detect a user/visitor browser default language so that a language page (default.asp) will pop up in a preferred language ( for example, if I am using a browser - IE or Netscape - set with a Japanese language as a default or using their "Japanese version" - Snitz automatically pop up the default or top page with that language (assuming that Snitz database and a forum is enabled for "multilingual" contents. If a particular language version is not available or deployed in the forum, it will default to English.

(2) Language section/language selector will be available in the ways you mention (probably do not need to be applied to every level, as language switching at every level assumes, as it seems, that a content/message/topic will be available in multiple languages (i.e. same contents/topics in multiple languages rather than simply mixed language contents....or not?)

Also, I was playing with Japanese/English and didn't encounter the issue that Bozden mentioned...is this because the forum is setup with UTF-8?

Strange thing happened at my Shift-JIS site... everytime I tried to creat a new Category, Forum, or Topic, a garbage HTML text font definition statement appeared on top of a inc_top.asp....not sure why as nothing really touched. Subsequently I re-set it with UTF-8 (putting new Lang1041 (UTF-8 code format) and inc_post.asp.... now it is OK but could not restore Shift-JIS enviornment....

The ideas here are to be taken into account.

* The selector is disabled in some of the pages
* Browser language will be taken into account for the first visit
