Holidays Mod Add-0n for Events Calendar Version 2 SR1 Created by: Bookie
This add-on will allow you to easily add holidays for the current year or upcoming year. It comes with US holidays for 2001 and 2002. It would be very easy to add pages that will allow you to add holidays for other years and other countries.
Note: I only have the ability to use Access 2000 so be sure to test it first with one or two holidays.
*********************** Instructions:
Simply upload the files in the zip file to your forum directory.
Add a line in your admin_home.asp page to access the holidays.asp page.
<LI><a href="holidays.asp">Add Your Holidays</a></LI>
Drop down the menu of which country's holidays and year you would like to add. Then check the boxes of the holidays you want to add. You can modify the message that will show up in the body of the event. Most of the titles of each holiday follow the following format:
Holiday: New Year's Day
**********************
Screen Shot
Here are the holidays that are available: New Year's Day Martin Luther King Day Groundhog Day Valentine's Day President's Day St. Patrick's Day Palm Sunday Good Friday Easter Tax Day Daylight Savings Time Begins Mother's Day Memorial Day Flag Day Father's Day Independence Day Labor Day Grandparent's Day Columbus Day Daylight Savings Time Ends Halloween Election Day Veteran's Day Thanksgiving Christmas Eve Christmas New Year's Eve
Feel free to make improvements or suggestions. I really anticipate those of you in other countries will add on to this to allow easy addition for the holidays in your country.
If you do.... I'll make appropriate changes to the holiday.asp page and include your pages in my zip file. You'll need to create a country_year.asp page as well as a country_year_process.asp page. You can easily copy and modify the pages I've already created.
I'm glad to serve the Snitz community with this add-on!

I just tested it and it works. Let me know if you have any further problems.
Has anyone used this? Has it been helpful?

I saw someone discussed recurring events, maybe we can add the holidays to recurring events when it's available.

Bookie,
Great MOD.. Just about to change it for Australia. Once configured, real easy to add the holidays in. Fantastic work.

Could you send the additional and modified files to me so I can add that to my zip files? Then othes will have access to Australian holidays. I'm hoping others will do this for other countries.

Bookie,
No problems, shall send them to you. I am thinking of a way to slightly change them to be listed with a tick mark to be private otherwise they will be public. Once this is done in the next couple of days, shall send them off.

You may have already figured this out but in each insert statement, you can change the last 0 to a 1 which should make it private. I wonder if I should make that a choice on the main page... whether the holidays are private or public.

Hmmmm, this is very interesting from the point of view of internationalization. Thinking the same way M$ does in Windows series locales . What if the installation procedure (setup) asks for a locale (or better locale"s" for user selectable multi-lingual forums) .

Bookie,
On the main page would be better, and save me some work..

Bookie....
Terrific addition to our calendar!! Thank you very much!
One question, is there a way to have the holidays show in red? That would draw attention to them like on paper calendars. I've tried inserting a font color= in a number of places with no luck.

I guess you could try the forum code but I'm not sure how forum code works in the title of an event. Aznknight would have to answer that question. It's definitely a good idea!
