Mod Name: Sub Categories
Includes Removing Titles from Links – Very Nice
I have noticed that there is a good speed increase if you are using subCategories. Only data in the forums in that level are looked at, not all of them.

Status:
Still working issues when deleting Forums.
When Next Release comes out I will update it with this mod and send it up.
Do not Delete a SubCategory without deleting or moving Categories below it. You will also get a error if there is no Category below it. Just go up one category and then delete the Sub category. This is being worked now

Files or Code: -
New Icon for Sub Categories

Database Update:
Forum_Category Table needs update
2 New Items "CAT_PARENTID" and "CAT_SUBCATID"- Number - Default =0

Demo:
Name- admin
Password- admin
http://vasserver.dyndns.org/Forums_2000/test/default.asp

Comments:
The Sub category part was easy. The Forum Tree was the hard part. Sub Categories had to have the parent Category listed.

Remember that Sub Categories do not have to be used. ONLY the ADMIN's can created them. And they can go down whatever level they want !

(2 Times faster with a new database any only 13 posts, 9 forums )

Now the bad part , the Statistics goes by reading all the forums. It will only show for that level.

Unless it gets updated. But still could be faster

Something to look at

This is a cool mod.

It's the sort of thing that would be cool to include with the actual release of snitz.

Hint hint... Reinhold =)

aye... it's awesome!

But right now everyone should be working on "DEBUGING" and "DOCUMENTING"

Reinsnitz,

What specifically do you need in "Documentation" ? I'd love to offer my services as a seasoned webmaster who's done a fair bit of technical writing =)

mee needs code :) I'm creating my new forums now and I would very much like to set up the category thing. Unless you can make a script to add and modify the tables in the db, cuz I dont have access. otherwise I would have to write over this db with modified one and lose data.

When completed the setup.asp can setup the needed new database fields. I think there is only 2 in the categories.

Also you would not have to update the database then creating new Sub categories.

Just create the sub category, then move the old forum to that category [:d].

FYI
I leaving, will not be back until 10/23/00

Sabre... Gor is geting the Documentation started... but I don't think we have a team lead for it... or a solid direction yet :)

Any help you could give would be great!

I imagine a simple map would be good... A list of all files, the main function, and what other files depend on them. It wouldn't hurt to add a line at the top of each file with:

###edited on x/x/xx by xxx
###change was xx on line xx for xxx bug/improvement

I try...(really) to add something like this to my applications so others can edit it later without having to guess.

after version 3.1sr3 is released... and declared stable... we will be incorporating this code into one of the first beta's... after internationalization.
