Hi everyone, this sure is nice software!
I am on the verge of abandoning my ezboard in favor of real software, and heard about snitz from my friend Fez.
For the moment, I set this up on my home machine under win98 pws, and things went pretty smoothly.
I did have some logout problems and had to reinstall the database a few times before I got things working properly. I kept losing admin powers and couldn't get them back. Seems ok now though.
I was wondering about a few things. If you can get to my test forums, you'll see that I use graphics for forum names. This seems to work mainly ok, but I don't really have enough space to enter a long tag.
Also, sorting the forums and the categories seemed to be a problem, I ended up having to rename the forum graphic files to get the forum/category order I wanted.
I thought I might be able to make the changes right in Access, but couldn't find a place to do it, and wasn't sure what the implications of direct database editing might be.
Is there a way to make the table backgrounds clear? I prefer getting rid of the whole grid look, at least on the main page.
Fez apparently has written "mark forum read" and "next thread/previous thread" modules, are features such as this planned for snitz forums?
Re customization. I was able to fiddle with a few of the asp files to add some basic customization, but I would imagine that would be deleted during any future upgrades. Am I missing someplace to do additional customization? I'm talking about things like adding backgrounds and different color schemes for each forum.
Has there been any thought given to an ezboard conversion utility. I understand that it wouldn't be as easy as with ubb, where you have the actual files handy, but a whole ezboard can be accessed online, one thread at a time, (but not the member list), so I was wondering if there might be something coming to grab ez message data.
In any case, this is really tremendous, you have many features that I've been looking to add to my board.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Well, I found the next/previous feature and turned it on. Duh, I should have seen that one!
Also, the graphic category/forum names are causing some problems with the jump box. IE and NS6 display empty lines, NS475 displays the graphics all across the bottom of the screen.

I posted the Mark Forum Read code in asp-dev.com a few months ago, and I know that a Snitz splice has been made out there. For now I'll do the splice for you. I rely on the Mark Forum Read option because sometimes I hit a forum several times in a couple of days before I want to mark the posts read. People are going to miss that feature if it's not in here.
I'll also try to figure a way to make mods to the Snitz code as include files, so that if the Snitz code is changed, we won't loose as much of the new code, we'd just have to re-include them. Eventually the original code may expand enough to include our features (that we will share), so that everyone in the Snitz community will get the same benefits.

After and Fez,
Thank you for your contributions <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
As always... we're trying to make this code better... and if your features suggestions are something that is in fact an improvement for a large number of our users :)
and your mods look good ;)
Right now however, we are in a middle ground point... we are trying to write up some documentation, so that people like After Hours can check the documentation to figure out what to do in making some kind of major modification... or at least give some direction. While this documentation is going on... I will be working on adding International / Template language files.
This might take about a month to get the mods in... then we'll start looking back at the new feature additions.
Hope this answers your questions... if you need more details... please ask again <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Well, we not only have "mark forum read", we also have "mark all forums read", as well as a significant number of other features, including "local timezones for everyone", "view threads with new activity only", "view new messages in a thread only", "read a thread in reverse", Full Quickscan, custom backgrounds for each forum, forum ordering, separate forum display names, and Global Moderators, in addition to all the mods we mentioned in another thread several months back.
However, after my $100 cash donation was never acknowledged, and after my "check out my board" message here was edited, I sort of got the feeling that we weren't welcome here, so we decided to take v3.1 final and break off into our own development.
Because of that, I'm not sure how easy it would be to incorporate our mods back into the base snitz. We've added probably a dozen fields to the database, and we've converted it to access 2000.
Fez made the initial mods for the new cookies, error trapping, and mark forum read, and he's an excellent programmer. However, after that, he got real busy and I made all of the mods since then. I didn't know how to program in asp before starting this (I'm an old assembler guy), and my coding reflects that. I'm more of a guerilla programmer who's only concerned with making something work. My code isn't pretty, and may have ill effects on other items, so I wouldn't just give it out because it might screw up someone elses data.
Our code has issues - for instance, the setup has never been updated to reflect all of the new fields, there's a bug in the reverse read, and some other minor problems exist.
On the other hand, After Hours has returned to being a major force online since moving away from ezblob in into Snitz/Fezboard. We're logging 3-500 posts a day, and pulling in about 5,000 page views a day. So guerilla or not, it's working. The snitz platform has proven to be excellent.
If you want our code, I'm happy to send it to you, Mike. But, as I said, since we've diverged somewhat, there could be pitfalls merging them.
If anyone wants to see After Hours in action, email me for the link, I'm not allowed to post it here.

I'm another refugee from eZBoard. Anybody else smell a business opportunity here?
I think those who can set up their own are looking to jump.
