I have been working with Richard on this, but can't seem to find a solution. here's the problem:
Whenever I login to an existing account, access my profile, and submit changes (or just submit without changes), the success page shows up but the redirect fails and I get the full error message saying that I haven't entered any of the required info.
For a history of what Richard has tried/suggested, go HERE.
At first I thought it might have something to do with the Avatar mod because it started after I installed it, but Richard eliminated that possibility. For some reason, the redirect URL info is not making its way into the META "Refresh" tag in my pop_profile.asp (around line 921 and 1111).
If anyone out there has any ideas, I'd appreciate the help.

Doug,
I'm using IE 5.5 and this problem only showed up after I installed the Avatar MOD. The mod itself works fine and I don't get any file or DB errors. This is really weird. Unfortunately, I'm an absolute newbie to ASP and feel frustrated that I can't ask very knowledgeable questions. I can stare at the code and figure some of the logic out, but that's about as far as I can get, and this seems to be stumping our good friend, Mr. Kinser to boot.

I sometimes have the same problem. I do not have the avatar mod installed. I added a required field to my registration, though. This is a weird error, though. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't. I haven't been able to find out the pattern for it, unfortunately.

Yeah, it's weird alright. The meta "refresh" code is part of an if-then statement based on strUseExtendedProfile and I'm wondering if the problem has something to do with that. I just don't know...

No, it has nothing to do with that if...else statement. It's the "Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_REFERER")" that is not working. Because when you click on the Profile link at the top, you are taken to the "username" and "password" field in pop_profile. That page should grab the "HTTP_REFERER" value, but it doesn't. The rest of the pages take the value from that hidden form field that contains the "HTTP_RFERER" value.
Can you post a link to a txt version of your register.asp and pop_profile.asp page?

Sorry, I need to look at your policy.asp page too.
Found a bug in the register.asp page, but it has nothing to do with your problem.

It's really strange to see that the "Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_REFERER")" only works on some pages.
For example, the policy page uses that code to get the referer page, but it doesn't work.
is it possible that you could create a new folder and place a fresh copy of the forums in there and a new database from the zip file and test it to see if the same thing happens?

Davio,
Thanks for helping out. Here's my policy.asp.
This is a weird one, and it only occurs when submiting the profile. Every other instance that calls for the HTTP_REFERER seems to work fine.
I'll try the new set-up when I get some free time, too. BTW, what was the bug in my register.asp?
Thanks again!

Grr. I had replied here already, but it was durung the time tim and huwr were switching servers here that it didn't get posted.
Oh well, I had said, that there was nothing wrong with your policy.asp page. The only thing I can think of to see why it is doing that is by installing a new forum and see if it still does that. Then we can move on from there (or not).
