It seems to me that the biggest problem with forum snitz (about the only one infact) is that the computer language it's written in, ASP, is used by so few people and the fact that the componies that do offer free hosting with ASP are crap. If someone were to script this into a common computer language such as CGI or PERL, we could forget the problems of finding a half decent host! If this is not possable, then could somebody direct me to a free copy of iASP (the thing that is compatable with unix and other not NT platforms)?

The problem with writing a version in perl is the same as the problem of writing a PHP port. The task of keeping multiple versions of the forum updated would be a daunting task.
If you want a free perl board, try www.ikonboard.com
I haven't heard of iasp, so I can't point you anywhere for a link to that, sorry.

iASP is a version of the ASP server language that is compatable with non-Microsoft NT servers, such as Unix and probably a dozen others. The iASP language is, from what I understand, exactly the same as the ASP language, but I may be wrong about this. In order to use iASP, the server would need to buy software called ColdFusion (I think) and install it on their server. You can find out more about this by plugging in iASP into google (www.google.com)...

If you want a host which is good and reasonable priced, check www.crystaltech.com. I have had them as a host since September 2000, and no problems. Prior to that, I had to be changing hosts every six months, while using bigger name hosts.
Snitz forum is erfect for me, because my site is mostly ASP. I worked with another Perl script before this, but perl just gave too much problems on NT server. |

if ya want PHP use PHPbb which is essentailly snitz/ubb in php, its got almost the same kinda mods for it.
No, I am thinking snitz in C#/.NET.
I remember on another forum some people did a speed comparison, C# beat PHP and Jscript and VB script with quite a margin...
I'm here to donate blood... Someone elses... |
