In the PM Mod there is an ignore option. I was wondering if any of you could create an ignore mod for the entire forum?
This would be benificial for our members, if having a problem or stalking by another member to simply add them to their ignore list. With women members, we don't want to see any of them being hasseled by another member. This would have to be written so Admins and Moderators could not be added to the list of course.
Anybody feel game to creating something like this? Hope so!

may I suggest having your moderator patrol their respective areas and monitor harrassment issues and delete/lock/edit topics and members as needed? also there is a Report To Moderator mod that someone could use if they are feeling harrassed.
running a board by yourself can be quite exhausting...

This is something that I feel would be advantagous to a lot of board Admin as it takes the responsability (and liability) off of them and puts it on the members.
Dayve, altough I appreciate your input, I've run many boards from the CompuServe BBS days through the EZboard, CoolBoard, UBB, VBB and whatnot days. I'm no newbie to boards or their management. In addition, I've seen law suits come out of simple things like this and unfortunatly the "Owner" of the board has been drawn into the court battle resulting in lawyers fees to prove their "uninvolvement." That in itself is something to be avoided.
This is not a request from lazyness of management but rather a request from a liability standpoint and if anybody does a little review of commercial boards, you'll notice all but a few offer this feature.

I do'nt see how having an ignore feature removes your responsibility for what is posted on your board, since the user can still post, it is just that some people may choose to ignore what they have to say. This does not make you as admin/owner of the site any less liable.

HuwR, it's not to keep a poster from posting, it allows a user to ignore a certain posters remarks. I have seen many examples on my previous boards where a user constantly goads another into arguments or certain members are stalked by another. Yes, this comes down to members exercising self control but there's always some nut(s) that hasn't learned that yet and I'm not talking kiddie or specific interset boards but adult, multi topic boards such as mine.
By allowing a user to ignore or mask another users posts, a problem usually fizzles out because the agressor knows his/her posts are not being seen or read.
As I've said earlier I'm not new to running boards and I've seen this example work wonders. I have also ended up in court over some idiot(s) that couldn't control themselves. If you're going to run a board, having as many safeguards in place is the better. This is a very litigious society.
I guess I'm a bit surprised more haven't seen the benefits of such an addition. Perhaps many haven't been around chat sites as long as I, and seen all the problems that arise when you mix many different personalities together. Unfortunatly, it only takes one.
If no one wants to write it, that's fine. Consider it a dead issue.
(edited to add can't use enough of these guys so no one takes things wrong)

I didn't see this post until now because the title was not very descriptive of what it was.
I need an ignore feature for the pm mod too. It'll keep members from harassing other members.
The thing is, how to go about programming this feature? hmm...*thinks hard*
