i don't really need this, but i thought that it would be a good idea in general for supporting the "community spirit" of a board if there's a guestbook under each members profile where other members leave messages.

i love this idea, would be webspace consuming i think. id like to have it where there is a jumpbox to change between users, and to be able to use forum code in thier too....
would love to have this on my board!

Hehe, here's a source of inspiration
http://phoenix2k.deviantart.com/

Included in each user profile :
  • Guestbook

  • Journal

  • Recent posts

  • Screnshot of user's desktop

  • etc.

I realize that some of those elements are pretty 'useless' eg. the screenshot of a desktop, but they would nevertheless improve the community spirit.

I know some people base their entire site around the forums, so I seriously think this'd boost their community up.

Unfortunately that works both ways. The more users, the heavier load. Adding a guestbook, a journal etc. for all users would probably cause a lot of trouble. Or would it? Since it would only be a few lines of text in the database, I don't think it would take that much space would it?

superb member's profile page, pheonix , although it's not snitz but a php based forum.

so each member have their own subdomain or something? http://pheonix2k.deviantart.com ...or do just certain members?

I also noticed that you can send notes to member within their profile too, which has a snitz equivalent in the pm mode and some code I remember releasing.

i was thinking of coding an online members diary, kinda like the "journal" implementation on that site.

The subdomain thing is pretty neat, I have to admit that :)

But the diary feature and the guestbook (pm? why not) would be an awesome addition to the forums. If you can somehow pull that off, it'd be unreal

Peace

oh and subdomains... very, very cool. I would love to have subdomains but my host charges like 25 bucks a month or something. wish I could continue running my server from home, then I could have done it for free but I don't have the resources....
