V3.1 Beta 5 is out...

<li>No new features since beta 4c, just fixed a bundle of bugs.</li>
<li>See the bugforum for closed bugs.</li>
<li>Support for Chili!Asp and MySql has been improved.</li>
<li>The planned fix for "foreign characters" has not been included due to problems implementing it.</li>

First version after this will be Version 3.1 final, this will then replace Service Release 2 as official version.
Only serious bugfixes posted today or tomorrow will be included in that version.

After that version I'll be stepping aside again so Mike can take back the lead developer position.
He'll do the inclusion of CSS-support and the multi-language support.

Can you tell me the procedure to upgrade beta 4b to beta 5? If I remember right it is copy all the .asp files into my forum directory and run the upgrade asp file or choose the update option from the admin menu, is that correct?

Also was CDONTS fixed? (I recall there being something out of order in your original CDONTS and thus I had to implement my own)

Kudos on the good work, bummed you couldn't get the foriegn characters in the message body yet, but hopefully Mike can at some point. I'll try not to find too many bugs in Beta 5 !!! <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hey I just replied here and it didn't show up, oh well. I found the upgrade instructions for beta 4b, are the instructions for 5 the same?

One other question, any chance of getting the admin configurable extended user information fields in the next release? (See my separate thread on this request, otherwise if I build it in myself I'll keep having to rebuild it in after each upgrade! )

There are no database upgrades needed from beta 4 to 5, so just copy the files and your ok.
If you want to upgrade the version info in the database just run setup.asp?rc=3 after upgrading and choose to upgrade from beta 4.

No plans for that, it is a would be nice, but because there haven't been more requests for it (except yours), it hasn't moved up the priority ladder.

Could you take a look at this modified beta 5 here to see if that one accepts foreign characters ?

Woops, hadn't fixed this error there yet.
That error doesn't show if your are an administrator user <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

Ken,

This is what I saw at the modified beta 5 forum after installing the Japanese language extensions in Internet Explorer:

Does this mean that the foreign characters are saved ok now ? Does this look the way it should ? (my Japanese isn't good enough for that)

Yes, I talked to Magellan AND IT WORKS! Whatever you did, that made it work and he can now read and write Japanese in the body of the message (don't know about message titles, etc.) So, PLEASE send me the modifications you made to make this work, I need to get them into the forum ASAP so I can have this working before I leave on vacation and let it run while I'm gone. Thanks!
